Hi everyone! So spring is finally here even though the weather doesn’t quite feel like it in New Jersey, but I am already thinking about my spring wardrobe. I’ve put a list below of some of my favorite trends this year: florals with a twist in muted styles like the bodysuit I’m wearing above or vintage red rose designs, black and white pieces that are anything but boring, and feminine ruffles I’d wear with leather accents or a distressed denim to edge them up. Read below for all the looks and to see more looks on how I styled the body suit above, I’ve put more pictures below :).

Olivia Culpo Oscars Inspired Makeup

Photo from glamour.com

The most glamorous night of the year came and went without any controversy (*insert Steve Harvey joke here*) but surprisingly there weren’t too many fashion and beauty missteps.I was a bit sad to see the lack of color this Oscars season, but my eyes lit up at Olivia Culpo’s lovely  lilac eye look. I love the whimsical vibes this gives which makes  it perfect for spring. You could definitely wear this everyday  for a pop of color with a BB cream or light foundation, or you could wear as-is for a more formal event. I used mostly affordable products for this look, and gave alternatives if I used something higher end. Olivia’s team used L’Oreal for the eye look so you can really achieve this on a tighter budget. Read below if you want to get this dreamy pastel makeup look!

Makeup Look

img_3224

Primer: Wet n Wild CoverAll Face Primer

Foundation: L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation in Classic Ivory applied with a damp Beauty Blender

Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair. Affordable option: Maybelline’s Age Rewind or NYX HD Concealer

Cream contour: Wet n Wild MegaGlo Makeup Stick Contour in Call Me Maple (applied in contours of the cheeks, high points of the forehead, nose and under the lips) blended out with a stippling brush, and patted in with a damp Beauty Blender. Then took my Shape Tape concealer under the cheek contour and blended it out for a harsher line.

Liquid highlighter: Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter in Light/Iridescent (applied with a damp Beauty Blender to the tops of the cheeks, bridge of the nose, inner corners and above the brows).

Bronzer: Physicians Formula Argan Wear Bronzer in Light

Powder: Kat Von D Lock It Translucent Powder. Affordable option: Maybelline Translucent Powder

Brows: Benefit Precisely My Brow in 5, Benefit ka-Brow in 4 and NYX Brunette Brow Mascara. Affordable options:  NYX Microbrow Pencil and Maybelline MasterDrama Brow Powder

Eyeshadows:

  1. Lid: L’Oreal Infallible Paints Eyeshadow Shady Violet, used the darker shade in a thin line on the lid just above the upper lashline.
  2. Lid and crease: L’Oreal Colour Riche Pocket Palette in Violet Amour, used the bottom left shade (light purple) all over the lid, first using a blending brush in the crease and then packing all over with a shader brush.
  3. Outer crease: L’Oreal Violet Amour top right shade (medium toned Violet) a bit of this in the outer crease applied with a blending brush.
  4. Lower lashline: Bottom left shade from Violet Amour palette applied generously with a fluffy pencil brush, then applied a bit of the lighter shade from the Shady Violet eye paints in the center.
  5. Inner corner: I used a discontinued Wet n Wild pigment (sorry didn’t even realize!) but you can use your face highlighter in the inner corner for the same effect.
  6. Brow bone: Any shimmery light nude will do; I used the last shade in the L’Oreal La Palette Nude 1

Mascara: Maybelline Big Shot Mascara in Very Black (I believe Olivia is only wearing mascara, but I like a bit more drama so I added falsies, but you could definitely stop at mascara).

False lashes: Velour Silk Lashes in Fluff’ n Whispie. Affordable option: Ardell Faux Mink Lashes #811

Eyeliner: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner in Nude

Blush: Wet n Wild Color Icon Ombre Blush in The Princess Daiquiris

Powder Highlighter: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Radiant Lights

Lip liner: NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Mauve (your liner should be a shade or two darker than your lipstick for this look so you see a subtle shift for light to dark)

Lipstick: Maybelline Inti-Matte Nudes in Almond Rose, and I added a little concealer in the middle of my lips to lighten a bit.

Bodysuit: ASOS (no longer available). Similar: Asos Night Sleeveless Embellished Bodysuit

Allover Olive: Smokey Green Eyeshadow

img_2417img_2416

Hello everyone! I’ve been waiting to break out the insanely beautiful MAC Spellbinder Shadow in Mysterious Influence for a twist on a smokey eye, so I did today for this makeup look. I will say while these shadows are beautiful, they are very finicky to work with. I would recommend applying your foundation after your eyeshadow, and tapping any excess powder off your brush because the fallout from this was crazy! Needless to say even with some not-so-great attributes, I really loved the way this color looked on the eyes. Read below for how I achieved this look, and I’ll have some Valentine’s Day posts coming up soon 🙂

Makeup Look

img_2423img_2425

Foundation: Fiona Stiles Luminous Finish Foundation in 01 Porcelain

Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair

Powder: Kat Von D Lock-It Translucent Powder (only apply on under eyes because I’m very dry!)

Brows: Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil in #5 and Benefit ka-BROW! in #4

Eyeshadows: Steps in order of application

  1. Lid: Colorpop Valley Girl Supershock Shadow all over the lid
  2. Crease: Morphe 35O row 1, shade 6 (khaki brown shade) and row 3, shade 2 (light, neutral brown)
  3. Outer Lid and Inner 1/3 lid: MAC Spellbinder Shadow in Mysterious Influence (applied with a MAC 242, and my finger to blend, a blending brush has too much fallout with this shadow)
  4. Lid: Applied more of Valley Girl in the center of the lid
  5. Outer lid: Used some of Kat Von D’s Jet shadow from the Metal Matte palette to darken the very outer part of the lid. Can use any black shadow.
  6. Lower lashline: Morphe 35O row 5, shade 2 (golden bronze), then blended Mysterious Influence with that, then used a black shadow with a definer brush close to lower lashes to deepen.
  7. Browbone and Inner corner: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights

Eyeliner: NYX Matte Liquid Liner and L’Oreal Silkissime in Black

Lashes: Eylure Luxe Lashes in Baroque

Blush: Milani Berry Amore Blush

Highlighter: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights

Lips: Colorpop Grunge Pencil, Urban Decay Vice Lipstick 1993 and L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paint in Nude Star

Necklace: BaubleBar

Dress: Asos

It’s Halloween! 2016’s Costume Look: Patronus/Etheral Deer

Happy Halloween to all my Halloween loving lovelies! I’ve always been obsessed with Halloween; I feel like I can really let my creativity flag fly. This year I found these amazing silver deer antlers (covered in glittery goodness) at Spirit Halloween, and the idea of being a Harry Potter Patronus morphed. I’m also thoroughly in love with all things Harry Potter. I know it’s a little late to create this look now, but there’s always next year! Or any surprise future costume parties. Below is what I used to achieve this look, now Expecto Patronum!

Makeup

Face:

  1. Use your regular foundation and concealer.
  2. Used NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk for the spots, along with NYX White Liquid Liner for some smaller spots.
  3. Contoured my nose with Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette, any contour shade will do just wanted to make it wider looking.
  4. On the bridge of my nose I used Colourpop’s Highlighter in Honeymoon. (Wish it didn’t look so muddy in this picture, but I promise it looked glowing and beautiful!)
  5. Forehead and chin: Mehron Metallic Powder in Silver, mixed with Mehron Mixing Liquid. Make sure to have enough powder in the liquid for more opaqueness. Used a Q-tip to apply on my nose, and a wedge sponge to apply on the forehead and chin. Also, dotted some spots of this on my face.
  6. Lips: Mehron Silver Powder, topped with NYX Wicked Lippie in Stone Cold.

Eyes:

  1. Lid: LORAC 2 shadow in Silver (any silver shadow will do). Then, I applied Too Faced Glitter Glue on the lid with my finger and packed NYX Face and Body Glitter in Crystal all over.
  2. Underneath: Sculpted this area with NYX Milk Jumbo Pencil, drawing a line from the outer corner of my eye in a diagonal almost to my nose. Then  I filled that whole area, and my waterline with Milk as well.
  3. Gems: Got both sets at AC Moore. They have sticky adhesive on the back, but I used a little lash glue to hold them on a bit better.
  4. Lashes: Any pair will do, I like Ardell’s lashes as an affordable option. These were a silver and black Halloween style from Target (don’t know the brand off hand)
  5. Top Liner: NYX Matte Liquid Liner
  6. Brows: Fill in with your regular brow product, and I added some of the NYX Crystal glitter with the glitter glue on the outer arch.

Body:

  1. All Mehron Metallic Powder. I used on any exposed skin, so my legs, arms, neck and torso as well as up my neck and some of my back. I needed 2 bottles, and would definitely recommend ordering 3-4 bottles if it’s the smaller powder. I just had enough.
  2. First, I mix the powder and mixing liquid. You want the powder to grab your sponge and not be overly liquid-y.
  3. Dip a wedge sponge and apply in stroking motions, this works better than patting, that makes it look super spotty. But if you have streaks then pat lightly over the area. This stuff does move a bit before it dries.
  4. This will not get on anyone once it dries down, you really have to scrub it off (I went through a whole bar of soap!), but it’s great for going out as it won’t transfer on people or your car.

Hope you guys enjoyed this blog post, and have a safe and very wicked Halloween!

Music Muse Makeup: Festival Season

IMG_6424

When Coachella hits its officially festival season. I’m sure like me, many of you have lusted over the perfectly mused, slightly lived-in makeup and outfit vibes of Victoria’s Secret models, musicians and fashion bloggers. My motto for a great festival look is bronze, highlight and a pop of color. I love to use bronzes for festival looks as they give that desert vibe that looks messy yet chic. With so many festival or even just summer concerts, I’m already booked for Beyonce and The Lumineers!, you can wear a bronzy look like this all summer long. Keep reading for how I got this look.

Makeup Look

IMG_6414IMG_6415

Moisturizer: Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Gel in SPF 15 (so important to wear sunscreen to any outdoor event this season. I like to use a moisturizer with SPF and a foundation/BB cream with one too).

Foundation: Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector in Light. (This features SPF 20 and has both foundation and concealer properties so you only need one step! For this look I used concealer as well, but you definitely don’t need it).

Concealer: Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral.

Powder: Maybelline MasterFix loose powder

Brows: Colourpop Brow Pencils in Bangin’ Brunette and Black N’ Brown (previously blog post shows how I use these). Topped with NYX brow mascara in Espresso

Eyeshadows:

  • Crease: Too Faced PB&J Palette shade Peanut Butter (any warm soft matte shadow will do)
  • Lid and Inner Corner : Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow in Forever Sand (I buy mine at Walgreens; a liquid or cream eyeshadow gives that highlighted gleam and won’t budge).
  • Browbone: Too Faced PB&J Extra Creamy (any off white shadow will work)
  • Lower lashline: Too Faced PB&J Peanut Brittle with the darker bronze shade in the Carli Bybel palette on the outside. Her lighter bronze would work in place of Peanut Brittle.

Liners:

Lashes: L’Oreal Carbon Blac Telescopic Mascara with Ardell Demi Wispies cut in half on the outer lash. (Cut your lashes in half for a more natural lash look, honestly I’d just go with mascara for a festival).

Bronzer: L’Oreal Glam Bronze in Light $14.99. So I could not find this online at all. It’s a new limited edition bronzer and you get a very large pan. I think the color is a bit cool, but it is pretty great for really fair skin like mine. I didn’t think it looked muddy at all. I put photos below incase you find this in-store; I got mine at Walgreens.

Highlighters: MAC x Rihanna RiRi Hearts Cream Higlighter in Diamonds (this is from 2013, but any liquid or cream gold highlighter will do I love Benefit’s Watts Up as well). I topped this with the gold shade in the Carli Bybel palette (3rd highlighter in). Get your paws on her palette soon, it’s going to be discontinued in June!

Blush: NYX Ombre Blush in Strictly Chic

Lips: Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Tansy topped with an old Bath and Body Works gloss (any tinted gloss with shimmer will work) You defintely want a no fuss lip look for these types of events. I love Colourpop’s Ultra Satin lips, they’ll stay all day and wear comfortably.

Top: Forever 21 Festival Collection (similar here and here)

Necklace: ASOS Pieces Benna Statment Necklace (sold out :(, but I love ASOS’s costume jewelry, it lasts long and looks/feel expensive without Urban Outfitters prices) Type in silver statement necklace in their search and you’ll find a ton of similar options.

Kiss-Proof Valentine’s Day Looks

IMG_3705IMG_3697 (1)

Hi beauties! If you’ve noticed something different about my page you would be correct; I changed the layout and URL for my blog, which you can now share with your friends as abeautycapsule.com! I’m super excited to take this step towards a newer look and feel. Anyway, today I’m here to recommend my favorite kiss-proof lipstick options, even if you are only kissing you pet this V-day like moi, haha. I also have two makeup looks, warning the red lip was NOT kiss proof, but I will give red lip options that are. I’m also going to give you some Valentine’s Day date night options; so all in all this is a jammed packed post. I would like to get a romantic halo smokey eye look up before V-day as well. But for now read on for some lovely looks.

Best Lipsticks for Smooching

*Disclaimer: These are what work best for me. Performance can change based on lip care, eating and drinking. For best wear time I apply a lip balm, let it sink in for a few minutes, then pat it off a bit and then I apply my liquid lipstick. Also, I find any high-pigment lipstick is going to have some transfer. To eliminate I’d pat with a tissue.

  • Reds
  • Pinks/Magentas
    • ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in More Better
    • OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Mina
    • Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks in Sad Girl
  • Nudes
    • OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Bel Air
    • Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Dolce
    • NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Soft Spoken (I’m obsessed with this for everyday)

Makeup Looks

Concealer:  Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral, buffed out with a damp Real Techniques sponge

Powder: Maybelline FaceStudio Loose Powder

Brows: Sculpted with the Maybelline Brow Define and Fill Duo in Deep Brown (only use pencil side) then filled in with the Anastasia Dipbrow in Dark Brown. Set with NYX Brow Mascara in Espresso

Contour: Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette shade Sombre. Contoured nose and cheeks.

Eyeshadows:

Liners: Jordana Cat Eye Liner in Black Leather and L’Oreal Silkissime in Black on the waterline

Highlighter: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer

Lips:

1st lip: NYX Soft Spoken with NYX Ever Lip Pencil

2nd lip: L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Gloss in Shanghai Scarlet (This is NOT a liquid lipstick). This color will transfer, but it does wear evenly, and does not bleed. But if you plan on kissing you partner, beware, unless you want to leave some kiss marks.

Styling Band Tees: I’m With the Band, But I Still Want to Look Like A Girl

DSC00157
So I have something to admit, I used to be a bit of a punk wannabe back in the day. You know, I had the scene side bangs, the rimmed black eyeliner that would even scare a mama raccoon and a taste for Green Day and Fall Out Boy (I may still sometimes indulge in the last one). I may have retired my Warped Tour style years ago, but one thing I’ll never retire is my love of music.

Recently, I’ve realized the concert tees I used to rock in middle and high school, usually with a pair of ripped jeans and Converses, are not all that flattering. Many music tees are oversized and look boxy on a woman’s frame. Fortunately, many stores now carry women’s sizes, but if you still love a cult band (like I do) you may have to style that tee into fitting like a shirt you got from Forever 21. Below is this look, my style tips and picks for best concert tees, as well as my favorite bands/ songs at the moment and lastly makeup deets. Enjoy darlings!

IMG_5524

Outfit Details and Style tips:

Tee: City and Colour Women’s Sometimes T-Shirt, $25

Skirt: ASOS Full Midi Skirt on sale for $16.50 but only in yellow (sad face) similar American Apparel Chiffon Pleated Skirt or Missguided Rai Faux Leather Full Midi Skirt Burgundy

Shoes: Go Jane a few years old, but this style is my ride or die and I can’t find similar ones anywhere (extra sad face).

Tips:

When fashioning up a band tee I suggest:

  1. Accessorizing, whether it be a statement necklace, such as the Zelda Fringe Bib Necklace from Bauble Bar or the Etched Tribal-Inspired Necklace from Forever 21, adding Navajo jewelry, ear cuffs, bangles, the works, really adds style to a band tee.
  2. Headware is your best friend: This is not the time to slack on your hair or pull it in a pony. If you want to go for rocker girl chic, working out that do is a must (even if it is that California bedhead look). I love headwraps such as the Leaf Fringe Goddess Chain Headwrap by Urban Outfitters or ASOS Fine Filigree Hair Crown. I also love a good hat, which will keep the sun off your face at outdoor concerts and festivals. My picks: ASOS Skinny Band Felt Floppy Hat (comes in black and burgundy) and H&M’s Felt Hat in Wool.
  3. Even if there are not women’s sizes by a mens small.
  4. To make a larger size shirt work tuck the shirt into a skirt, this also works with high-waisted shorts (not so much jeans, the fabric tends to bunch in the jeans).
  5. Add a belt to cinch in your waist and any extra material. My picks: H&M Waist Belt and Forever 21 Braided Faux Leather Belt, I love a braided belt because you can use the braids as holes to tighten at the waist where regular belt holes wouldn’t hold up a belt on a skirt.

Top Concert Tee Picks

  1. Forever 21 Rolling Stones Racerback Ringer Tank (their selection of women’s fitted concert tee’s is probably the best out there and so inexpensive!, browse their graphic tee section for more options)
  2. H&M Ramones Oversized T-Shirt
  3. Beyonce Pink Name Tee
  4. Junk Food The Who Tee
  5. Hot Topic The Rolling Stones Fang Tee
  6. Hot Topic The 1975 Logo Girls T-Shirt

Get Ugly this Holiday Season

Today I’m mixing it up on the blog with my first holiday season post, it’s not a fashion or beauty shoot (those will be featured in the coming weeks), but instead a funky Piktochart on the even funkier topic, Ugly Holiday Sweaters! I’m not going to ramble too much, just look at the Piktochart below to find all the Ugly Sweater madness. Featured below the Piktochart are links to all websites mentioned on the chart and what my favorite sweaters are from each! Happy holidays and shopping!
