Icy Blue Holiday Look: Colourpop Blitzed Collection

ice blue holiday makeup look

It’s that time of year, where dramatic and glittery makeup looks are out to play. I’m of course talking about holiday makeup looks. There are countless options for holiday makeup looks this season, you could always go with the classic red lip and winged eyeliner, or you can try something a bit off the traditional path like the look above. Holiday looks have become even easier to create, and more glam than ever before with the slew of holiday palettes that hit the market this time of year. Just check out your local Sephora or Ulta and start putting beautiful palettes on your wishlist.

The palette I used is actually from my all-time favorite affordable brand, Colourpop Cosmetics. It’s their holiday Blitzed Palette, which features six stunning Supershock Shadows. The shadows are actually more cool toned, accept one spellbinding gold, and it was fun experimenting with the cool grays and blues. Not gonna lie, this look has Winter Wonderland written all over it, and is perfect for any party. I really love this for a Hanukkah look because of the stunning blues. As always,  swatches and makeup details are below. Have a great holiday, I’ll have more looks coming!

FullSizeRender (19) colourpop blitzed palette

This palette retails for $30, and the case is super nice and strudy. This must be new packaging for Colourpop and I love it. There’s a magnetic closure and mirror, which is perfect for travel, you could even mix and match your favorite Colourpop shadows and store them in here. The quality, like always, is on point. You can’t go wrong with buying this for a Secret Santa party of for yourself, teehee.

Warm Orange Makeup Look Using Morphe 35O, Plus Swatches and Review

orange fall makeup look

I must admit, I had never purchased a Morphe palette before this one although the Queen of Youtube, Jaclyn Hill raves about the brand. She’s always talking about how buttery, pigmented, and affordable Morphe’s eyeshadows are and once I saw the 35O palette, I wanted a taste of the Morphe pie. Like many other makeup obsessed girls, this orange infused palette became a fall dream palette for me. The palette which retails for $22.99 has sold out multiple times because of its popularity. This item is permanent though and will be back in stock soon according to Morphe’s page. So do Morphe’s eyeshadows live up to Jaclyn’s and many other beauty bloggers hype? I’ll give you all the deats below! Also, this makeup look is great for an office Halloween party or festive Halloween look!

Product and Review

IMG_1359 morphe 35o palette

Firstly, this palette features 35 shadows which is a great deal for the price. The shadows come in a pretty flimsy plastic palette which I don’t love, it feels like it could easily snap, but for the price point I’m not surprised. There are a wide range or mattes and shimmers in this palette which makes it very versatile, but I will say the shimmers perform about three times better than the mattes in my opinion.

I love the last two rows which is why I really bought this palette and they definitely performed the best. The brownish colors, especially the matte shades, need to be built up for strong pigment. I also felt a lot of the shades were extremely similar, but the uniqueness of the orangey hues made this palette worth it. The shadows I used blended nicely and were very pigmented.

My verdict: If you want affordable eyeshadows, these are a nice option, but I really only think the last two rows with some various other shades are worth it. You can see in the below swatches the lack of pigment/smoothness in some of the shadows. You could get the browns with better pigment by drugstore brands; I like NYX’s Matte Shadows. I’d give this palette an 8/10. I know I’ll get a lot of use out of many shades and hopefully some of the mattes work better on the eye than in a swatch. P.S. Morphe sells many similar shades individually if you don’t want to buy this palette for a few shades.

Star Wars Alien Inspired Makeup and Review of Star Wars Lipsticks by Covergirl

IMG_1333 Star Wars Makeup

Hello earthlings! I’m back today with an Alien/Star Wars inspired makeup look. This look was really easy to do and fast for any last-minute Halloween ideas. I’d grab a metallic jumpsuit or leggings and you’ll look like you spent a ton of effort even if it’s a last-minute costume. I was inspired by the new Star Wars The Force Awakens makeup line by Covergirl for this look. I picked up three lipsticks from the collection (that’s all the shades they had left at my Walgreens). They cost $8.99 each. I really wanted the gold color for my actual costume this year (hint it’s also Star Wars) but I haven’t had luck finding it yet. Hopefully this look inspires all your galactic dreaming this Halloween. Mini review, swatches, and detailed steps for this look are below.

Review:

Star Wars Force Awakens lipstick

covergirl lipstick

So I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of Covergirl products. Everyone has always raved about their mascara, but it’s not something that has ever worked for me. That said, I have liked when super star makeup artist, Pat McGrath, has collaborated with Covergirl’s lipstick lines, which she did for this collection. I will say if you are not a Star Wars fan I don’t think these are the best lipsticks for the money, except number 20. The lipsticks aren’t named, just numbered, and they are all a very satiny finish. Here’s an individual look at each.

  • Number 20: 20 is a silver-lilac that is actually pretty pigmented. It has an intense metallic finish, and I haven’t seen any other lipsticks like this color. I really think this is a unique shade to add to any collection.
  • Number 30: 30 is a satin red with a decent amount of sparkle. It’s not as deep as the tube looks but it is a pretty color for the holiday seasons if you like sparkle in your lipstick. I don’t mind it, but I do think there are a lot of drugstore options that I’d use before grabbing this.
  • Number 50: 50 is a metallic eggplant color, also with a satiny finish. I like this, but I prefer a more matte finish for a deep color like this.

Overall the lipsticks I bought are a good option for Halloween makeup, but not a must have for your collection. I’m curious how the silver and gold in the collection look. If I happen to come across them I’ll post a review here!

New Colourpop Highlighters Review and Affordable Makeup Look

FullSizeRender (11)

Hi guys sorry it’s been a bit since I’ve posted. I’m graduating college tomorrow and things have been a bit hectic. I also am working on a revamp for a new blog, hopefully coming soon! Anyway a few days ago I received the new Colourpop Highlighters and some of their new spring eyeshadows and a lipstick. The reviews and this makeup look are down below, and for all my girls graduating, congrats! Find all products at colourpop.com.

Review

IMG_7471

Above are all the products I picked up, I got four highlighters at $8 each, four eyeshadows at $5 each and a lippie stix also $5. I love Colourpop’s consistent affordability and free shipping on $30 (believe me it isn’t difficult to spend $30 bucks there!). Below are my reviews for each category and swatches.

Highlighters:

IMG_7460 IMG_7479

From left to right is: Sticky Sweet, Butterfly Beach, Spoon and Wisp

Yes, I purchased basically all gold tone highlighters. Even though I have fair skin I just love a gold highlight, and when I received these the three gold tones looked almost the same. But fear not, they are different! Also, I’m giving all of these an A++++, they’re the most beautiful glows I’ve ever used, and long wearing. I like them even above my Becca highlighter. I apply mine with my fingers.

  1. Sticky Sweet: This highlighter is a bright magenta, and its fierceness is real. I would def wear this as a blush, not really a highlight. But the pigmentation is insanely beautiful.
  2. Butterfly Beach: This warm golden highlighter will give even fair-skinned girls that J.Lo glow. I was hesitant of this highlighter as I thought it would be too golden for my skin, but it’s turned into my favorite that I ordered. I’ve had a hard time with highlighters showing up with that in your face effect because of my freckles and fair skin. This one solves that problem.
  3. Spoon: Spoon is the lightest gold of the bunch. It has more of a champagne undertone and glittery flecks.
  4. Wisp: Wisp is slightly lighter than Butterfly Beach but still gives a beautiful sheen. I love this for everyday use.

 Eyeshadows:

IMG_7467 IMG_7478

From bottom to top: Taco, Shop, Snapdragon and Hello

Taco: Taco is matte and a mid-tone aqua, that reminds me of 70’s mod. I think this would look great on the lower lashline or all over the lid with a nude lip. The pigmentation is great and goes on in one swipe. 9/10

Shop: I love reddy-corals like Shop. This color is also matte and goes on intense. Colors like this make green and hazel eyes pop! 10/10

Snapdragon: Snapdragon is an earthy mint color, and I’m a sucker for mint. This is a great summer staple that can be worn alone or blended with a yellow or blue for a night out. 10/10

Hello: This color screamed summer, but its performance was lackluster for me. I think compared to many powder eyeshadow yellows it’s great. But as far as Colourpop’s usual standout pigmentation it fell a bit for me. But for $5 if you want a yellow that will show, this is a great option. 7/10.

Lippie Stix:

IMG_7484

Yasmin Lippie Stix: Yasmin is an electric coral, matte lipstick. I am obsessed with this color. I think for summer it’s so sexy and cool girl chic, depending on what you’re wearing. Yasmin goes on opaque, doesn’t dry out lips and stays pretty darn good. This will definitely be a summer handbag staple. 9/10

Some days I just want the smell of fresh leaves, pumpkin spice (yes I can be that girl) and the excitement of Halloween makeup, so today I decided to delve into my dark side and break out an awesomely weird look. I’ve had the NYX Wicked Lippies, only $6.00, sitting on my nightstand for a few months and last night I finally was inspired! (maybe it’s all the funtastic Fashion Week makeup looks) So today I threw on a Ramones tee and some alien lips (I feel like if I were an alien, this would be a seductive lip look). Rihanna, Kylie Jenner and Joan Smalls  (I think NYX”s Wicked lipstick in Betrayal would give that Joan Smalls look) have all taken the crazy lip plunge, do you dare?

Fifty Shades of Grey Inspired Makeup Looks

IMG_4312IMG_4319 (1)

So with Valentine’s Day coming up the only thing on most people’s minds is the Fifty Shade s of Grey movie. Yes, romance is on the outs this year with the highly anticipated Mr. Grey and Ms. Steele hitting the theatres on Valentine’s Day, so naturally I wanted to create looks inspired by the movie. One look is a more innocent look from when Ana first meets Christian and the second is a more sultry look after she’s shown the ropes (that may be a pun). Anyway I think either look works for a date night in or out, or even if you’re just going to see the movie with your girls, like me! I’m also going to list some other V-Day favorites of mine below, including books, movies and music.
