Allover Olive: Smokey Green Eyeshadow

img_2417img_2416

Hello everyone! I’ve been waiting to break out the insanely beautiful MAC Spellbinder Shadow in Mysterious Influence for a twist on a smokey eye, so I did today for this makeup look. I will say while these shadows are beautiful, they are very finicky to work with. I would recommend applying your foundation after your eyeshadow, and tapping any excess powder off your brush because the fallout from this was crazy! Needless to say even with some not-so-great attributes, I really loved the way this color looked on the eyes. Read below for how I achieved this look, and I’ll have some Valentine’s Day posts coming up soon 🙂

Makeup Look

Foundation: Fiona Stiles Luminous Finish Foundation in 01 Porcelain

Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair

Powder: Kat Von D Lock-It Translucent Powder (only apply on under eyes because I’m very dry!)

Brows: Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil in #5 and Benefit ka-BROW! in #4

Eyeshadows: Steps in order of application

  1. Lid: Colorpop Valley Girl Supershock Shadow all over the lid
  2. Crease: Morphe 35O row 1, shade 6 (khaki brown shade) and row 3, shade 2 (light, neutral brown)
  3. Outer Lid and Inner 1/3 lid: MAC Spellbinder Shadow in Mysterious Influence (applied with a MAC 242, and my finger to blend, a blending brush has too much fallout with this shadow)
  4. Lid: Applied more of Valley Girl in the center of the lid
  5. Outer lid: Used some of Kat Von D’s Jet shadow from the Metal Matte palette to darken the very outer part of the lid. Can use any black shadow.
  6. Lower lashline: Morphe 35O row 5, shade 2 (golden bronze), then blended Mysterious Influence with that, then used a black shadow with a definer brush close to lower lashes to deepen.
  7. Browbone and Inner corner: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights

Eyeliner: NYX Matte Liquid Liner and L’Oreal Silkissime in Black

Lashes: Eylure Luxe Lashes in Baroque

Blush: Milani Berry Amore Blush

Highlighter: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights

Lips: Colorpop Grunge Pencil, Urban Decay Vice Lipstick 1993 and L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paint in Nude Star

Necklace: BaubleBar

Dress: Asos

Holiday Look and Makeup Must Haves

img_1692

Happy holidays everyone! With Christmas and Hanukkah right around the corner, I was thinking about what my foolproof holiday staples are. I’m talking about what red lip will stay on while sipping holiday cocktails or kissing under the mistletoe, and what glitters will sparkle all through the night, because let’s face it no one wants to deal with smeared lipstick and flaky glitter this season. Below are my top picks, as well as what I used to get the makeup look above. So read on, and snag some of these for your holiday get together!

Kissin’ Under the Mistletoe Worthy Red Lipsticks

These are in order from the most foolproof to more satiny versions that may stain a cup a bit but stay on through dinner.

  1. Smashbox Always on Liquid Lipstick in Bawse $24 (my favorite red; super comfortable to wear, doesn’t bleed and stays on through eating, kissing, etc.)
  2. OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Atlantic City $19.90
  3. Maybelline Creamy Matte Lip Color in Siren in Scarlet  $7.99
  4. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Rita  $32

A Twinkle with the Tinsel: Best Glitters

These are true glitters, either liners or loose glitters, not a shadow with glitter in it. For any loose glitters a lightly spritz my brush with Fix + and then dip in the glitter.

  1. Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy $20 (so easy to apply, can build for more glitter coverage, and does not flake!)
  2. MAC Glitter (any shade) $22 (This is the best glitter for all over the lid, it’s super opaque and wears beautifully throughout the night)
  3. NYX Face and Body Glitter $5.99 (I love these when I first open them, but sadly after a few uses the glitter stops coming out, but if you need for one or two nights the price is right and the quality is great! Just wish it had better packaging)
  4. Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art $8.99 (I only use the glitter liner side of these, and it goes on great. After a few hours it will flake a bit, but once again for the price point it’s a good glitter liner)

Cult Reviews: Juvia’s Place Nubian 2 Palette

IMG_8700

I’m finally back in action! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA posting, life got in the way. I promise I’m not going to let it get in the way of my creativity as this is what I love and I don’t want to let any fellow beauty junkies down! I’m also going to try to incorporate some fashion posts into the blog this fall. Unfortunately, not all bloggers have got a photographer savant BF/husband to take some slay-worthy photos, but I’m gonna make it work so I can put up more content, anyway on to this review. Today, I’m reviewing Juvia’s Place Nubian 2 palette which I originally spotted on Nikkie Tutorials Snapchat. The colors and pigmentation caught my eye, and then I saw how affordable this palette is for the size and number of shadows and I knew I had to try it. Below are all the pretty nitty gritty details!

Review

FullSizeRender

  • Buy: juviasplace.com
  • Price: $30 USD
  • Shades: 8 metallics, 4 mattes
  • Individual size: 3.5 grams, a standard MAC eyeshadow is 1.3 grams
  • Pigmentation: 8.5/10
  • Longevity: 6 hours no primer, 10 hours with primer
  • Blendability: 7.5/10
  • Fallout: 5/10

Summary: If you’re looking for a pigmented and stunningly colorful palette, the Nubian 2 has all that and more. Even on workdays or more laid back occasions I find a use for the neutrals in this palette. I personally use Morocco, Jezebel and Yaas a ton; Yaas is especially stunning for green eyes. If you like Yaas,  Colourpop’s Game Face is similar if you’re not in the game for a full palette right now. The mattes in this palette are all you would ever really need to blend, but the shimmers are really the stars of the show. The only downfalls are the shimmers have a decent amount of fallout and once you blend them you do have to go back in and re-apply color as the shades pigment blends away a bit. I usually apply my foundation and concealer last with this palette, which is something I’ve never loved doing, but if you want your makeup to look good you do what you have too. So how long does this baby last? I know I for one hate reapplying my makeup. The true test was when I wore this palette recently for my cousin’s outdoor wedding in the 86 degree heat, and with a setting spray it lasted all day and night long. A huge win in my beauty book. The value is also great compared to other palettes as the pan sizes are huge and the pigment is spot on. If you’re looking for a new affordable palette, each shadow breaks down to $2.50 a piece in this! I say if you really are lusting for a colorful and shimmering palette that’s versatile this is an awesome staple that’s also affordable.

What’s New at Ulta: Including Fiona Stiles Foundation

IMG_5409 (2)

Happy Easter/Passover everyone! I recently ordered some new items from Ulta and wanted to do a look with them/test them out. This post will not feature full reviews, I will let you know my initial thoughts, but if you guys would like those let me know if you’d like an in-depth review of any of these products. I will probably do a post about the Fiona Stiles Luminous Finish Foundation Concentrate which retails for $30 and can only be found at Ulta. Below are the products I picked up and this makeup look. Now dig into that Easter candy and get your makeup on!

So far I really like this; it isn’t over dewy but it gives a nice luminosity to the skin, and my highlight actually showed up! Believe it or not because I have freckles, I have a hard time getting that glisten from within glow that I so so envy. I also haven’t felt oily at all, I have pretty normal/dry skin but with luminous foundation I can feel a bit oily on my chin after a bit. I also think the shade Porcelain is a great match for my skin; fair foundations have been a bit dark as of late and can look warm on me, but this one is perfect. So, so far so good! I will give a full update after a few days of wear, that’s really the only way to give a solid review. I also may review the Tarte Maracuja Oil if you guys would like. I also picked that up in this haul, but haven’t tested it yet, it is on sale for $25 though!

I’ve been debating purchasing this palette since I saw its PR on temptalia.com. It’s got every color I love and gravitate towards, but I wasn’t super impressed with the other Too Faced Palette I own, the Stardust Palette. Needless to say, I’m already obsessed with this palette. It has stunning coopers, a show-stopping purple, and a light gold that you don’t see in many palettes. The matte crease shades are also to die over, and it has a great off-white to highlight the browbone. All the colors are pigments and blend like a dream, oh and did I mention it smells like peanut butter!? The only disappointment I have if there isn’t a shade named Fluff, because I love me some PB&F. Definitely pick this up, it’s limited edition! Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette $36.

The NYX Ombre Blush in Strictly Chic was another win for me. I thought this product looked a bit gimmicky, but I saw Nicole Guerriero rave about the pigment in her February Favorites and I decided to test one out. This blush is a beautiful coral that is pigmented but not overly in your face. I just swirl the colors together and it’s a perfect pop of peach that blends easily. NYX Ombre Blush Strictly Chic $9.99.

Hello Halo: Romantic Halo Eye Look For V-Day

IMG_3938

So it’s Valentine’s Day weekend, or Galentine’s Day weekend or love yourself weekend, whatever it may be a Halo eye makeup look is calling your name. This style eye makeup, where you use a darker color on the outer and inner corner, and a lighter, often shimmery shade on the center lid, is my latest obsession. This is a recreation of the makeup look the Queen of Eye Makeup, Jaclyn Hill, did here. This look is honestly natural enough for everyday, but adds that little pop of allure and sexiness to your eyes depending on the shades you pick. I also have decided 2016 is the comeback of satin and more glossy lip looks. Colourpop is releasing a satin lip collection on Thursday that looks swoon-worthy, and I couldn’t be more relieved. I think we all need a bit of a breather from all matte everything (not that I don’t like a good matte lip every once in a while). Below is the makeup look per usual and my top favorite romantic palettes, so tell your significant other if they’re stuck on a Valentine’s Day gift! Anyway have an amazing chocolate-induced weekend, pop in a romantic movie (even if that’s Magic Mike, like I will probably be watching; no shame here!), and definitely recreate this look!

Primer: BECCA Backlight Priming Filter

Foundation: Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in Warm Porcelain

Concealer: NYX HD Concealer in Porcelain

Powder: Maybelline FaceStudio Translucent Powder

Brows: Maybelline Brow Define and Fill Duo in Deep Brown to shape brows (used pencil end) and NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder in Brunette (deepest shade) to fill in. NYX Brow Mascara in Espresso to set.

Eyeshadows: Used LORAC Pro Palette for the whole eye look, other than a Mac Pigment.

  • Crease: Taupe then used Mauve slightly above the crease with a MAC 224.
  • Outer lid: Sable with a teeny bit of Espresso in the outer V to deepen used a MAC 217.
  • Inner lid: Sable, really build this to a diffused brown with a blending brush, I used the MAC 217. Don’t put in inner corner where you’d highlight. This gives rounded eyes more of an almond shape.
  • Lid: Champagne, then topped with MAC pigment in Tan. Spritzed my MAC 242 brush with Fix + then applied the pigment.
  • Browbone: Nude
  • Lower lashline: Sable blended out with Mauve on a pencil brush.
  • Inner corner highlight: BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop

Lashes: L’Oreal Carbon Black Telescopic with Ardell Wispies 600 lashes. These are STUNNING and so romantic. These must be new, I can’t find them online. I got mine at CVS. These are very similar to House of Lashes Bambi.

Eyeliners: Jordana Cat Eye Liner in Black Leather just to line lashband and Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Nude.

Blush: Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink

Highlighter: BECCA Champagne Pop (applied on the bridge of my nose, above my brows, and cheekbones.

Lipliner: Jordana Tawny

Lips: Maybelline Totally Toffee (got mine in-store at Walgreens) with NYX Butter Gloss in Praline (obsessed with this color so so much)

Setting spray: MAC Fix +

Dress: Forever 21 (mine’s sold out, but this one is  similar)

Kiss-Proof Valentine’s Day Looks

IMG_3705IMG_3697 (1)

Hi beauties! If you’ve noticed something different about my page you would be correct; I changed the layout and URL for my blog, which you can now share with your friends as abeautycapsule.com! I’m super excited to take this step towards a newer look and feel. Anyway, today I’m here to recommend my favorite kiss-proof lipstick options, even if you are only kissing you pet this V-day like moi, haha. I also have two makeup looks, warning the red lip was NOT kiss proof, but I will give red lip options that are. I’m also going to give you some Valentine’s Day date night options; so all in all this is a jammed packed post. I would like to get a romantic halo smokey eye look up before V-day as well. But for now read on for some lovely looks.

Best Lipsticks for Smooching

*Disclaimer: These are what work best for me. Performance can change based on lip care, eating and drinking. For best wear time I apply a lip balm, let it sink in for a few minutes, then pat it off a bit and then I apply my liquid lipstick. Also, I find any high-pigment lipstick is going to have some transfer. To eliminate I’d pat with a tissue.

Halloween Haunts: Glam Frankenstein Halloween Makeup Look

Frankenstein makeup Happy Halloween month loves! October is my favorite month; I love all things Halloween, and it’s also my birthday month 🙂 Anyway, late last night I drank a grande Toasted Graham latte from Starbucks and went to town painting myself this lovely shade of green. I really wanted to up the ante on the Halloween looks I did this year because I’m a firm believer Halloween is the time to let your imagination come to life. I will say, this makeup was more difficult than I anticipated. But I’ll get into that below, where the tools, methods, and what I used will be listed. Happy haunting and good luck on all your Halloween makeup endeavors.

Tools

Mehron Paradise Palette
Mehron Tropical Paradise Palette
Real techniques beauty blender and brushes
Real Techniques Beauty Sponge and AC Moore Paint Brushes

After viewing a sick statue makeup video by Samantha from Batalash, I saw she used Mehron’s Tropical Paradise Palette, $27.99, to achieve the brilliant and opaque gray color. I knew I did not want to use traditional Halloween makeup for these looks as it can be streaky and difficult to build the colors (I will give some options below though if you guys would like to go with the convenience of buying in-store).

I also picked up some soft paint brushes from AC Moore I honestly didn’t use them all that much they didn’t really make the paint stick to the skin. I used my Real Techinques Beauty Sponges, I actually used two so if these are your everyday concealer sponges I recommend buying some back-ups because they will stain.

Unfortunately, Samantha’s video didn’t go into too much detail on how to apply the Mehron paint, so for me it was a lot of trial and error. I had watched a few videos, but for me lightly tapping the paint into the skin, where you let the sponge “bounce” off the surface definitely worked best. I would not suggest rubbing or pressing to hard as it removes the color, I had parts of my skin that looked faded to the point you could see my skin even after I layered from pressing the sponge to hard. Seriously, use an extremely light hand. I also recommend wetting your sponge and squeezing it once or twice, you need it pretty damp to activate the color to a creamy consistency.

I finally completed my look after about an hour and a half. If I knew the correct application process for the paint it would’ve been about an hour I think. Blending is key! I also hit pan on the light lime green in the palette, so I think these will cover your whole face, ears, neck. shoulders, and chest, but not your whole body. Mehron does have individuals of these though. I found mine on Amazon.

Achieving This Makeup Look

double frankenstein close up frankenstein makeup look

Note: I will link all items below where you can view them easier along with dupes. Below is an in-depth step by step.

  1. Face and Body: Mehron Tropical Paradise Palette, $27.99. I used the bottom lime green color all over my face, body, neck, chest, and ears.
  2. Setting Powder: I used Kat Von D’s eyeshadow in Birdcage to fill in any spots that showed some skin.
  3. Shading : I used the dark green to shade my forehead, chin, and cheeks. I blotted the color along my hairline and forehead as well as along my chin and then blended it out with some of the lime green color on a different sponge. I then used the medium AC Moore paint brush to place two “contour” lines in my cheeks and once again blended with the sponge until I got a hallowed look. I put some of this dark green in my nostrils as well.
  4. Highlighting: I took some of Spirit Halloween’s cream makeup in White and my large paint brush and painted this in my collar-bone and in between to create the T shape. I also put some of this on my nose with my finger and blended.
  5. Shading step 2 (this is how you get it to look creepy!): For this I used charcoal and black accents on my collar-bone and dip in my neck, so it creates a kind of T shape. I used the color Charcoal on a domed eyeline brush (sorry a lot of the makeup brushes I used were older, don’t have names) from the LORAC 2 to create that look (I’ll put more options below, but a dark grey or black shadow works for this).
  6. Shading step 3: I used LORAC’s Black shadow along my hairline and brought down a bit, I used a small contour/blush brush to do that. I then blended again with my sponge that had a bit of the lime green color until it looked melted into one another.
  7. Undereye Area: I used Deep Teal from the LORAC Megapro Palette (I’d probably use a deep green without shimmer but I didn’t have one, so I just layered colors), then I blended with my sponge again. After that I use LORAC 2’s shade Plum to give a more bruised look and added some of the shade Double Tap from the Too Faced Stardust Palette. I used a small and dense eyeshadow brush and dabbed the colors together under the eyes. I then blended everything with my sponge.
  8. Eyebrows: I almost left the eyebrows green, but I think the black really brought this look together. I used LORAC’s Black Shadow on an angled eyeliner brush to fill in the brows. I wanted to use gel liner, but couldn’t find mine. I think this worked well though, just make your eyebrows bold and kind of square with your brush.
  9. Eyes: I had covered my eyes with the lime green paint and then put Birdcage, a lime green shadow I used when from a LE Kat Von D palette in the crease, along with a little bit of NYX’s Jumbo Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green which I drew sloppily in the crease and blended .Then I used LORAC 2’s Charcoal in the crease and really blended. I also put this color in the outer V. Used a domed eyeshadow brush and IT cosmetics blending brush to blend out. Everything blends easily on the paint without lifting it which is a major plus.
  10. Lashlines: I applied Jordana’s Cat Eye Liner in Black Leather on my upper lashline, no wing. Then I applied the Jumbo Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green in the lower waterline. I applied LORAC’s Black along the lower lashline and blended with my IT Cosmetics brush.
  11. Mascara: I used the new Maybelline Falsies Push-Up (I think I used waterproof which I don’t recommend, the non-waterproof works better). I topped off with Too Faced Better than Sex. I opted for no lashes, but you could definitely use some, Ulta always sells awesome Halloween ones.
  12. Stitch: First I used a small eyeliner brush to draw the curved line with Black eyeshadow, then I used some of the shade Girl’s Night from the Stardust palette and the color Plum from LORAC 2 on the same brush and pressed it into the line to give it a bruised look. I added the stitches with my black liquid liner. (I saw some way cooler techniques like using staples, but it was 2 am and I wasn’t sure how it’d work out) You can also add some effects like fake blood and stitches from the Spirit Halloween store.
  13. Lips: I also almost didn’t do a bold lip, I am so happy I did though. I think it completed this monster look. I used MAC’s Nightmoth lip pencil and filled in with NYX’s Wicked Lipstick in Betrayal. I then topped with a generous amount of Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Fire Opal.
  14. Gems: I wanted it to look like my monster had that furrowed and distorted forehead look so I added some large green gems from AC Moore. They stick right on, I tried to accent with some smaller black gems but they did not stick well, I’d use some lash glue if you wanted to use smaller gems.

Removal

These face paints were super easy to remove and did not cause any staining to me or my sink. I used makeup removing wipes and some Garnier Cleansing Oil to take off. It took about four makeups wipes to remove fully.

The End.
