Rosy Valentine’s Day Makeup

img_2812img_2815

Hello lovelies; we are only a few days out from Valentine’s Day, or Valentine’s Day weekend, and I wanted to get a romantic makeup look up that also has a sexy edge. You can definitely interchange the lipstick for something nude if a flirty romantic vibe is more your thing, or you could change the brown eyeshadow I used to smoke this out with a black for a more sultry look. Whether you’re spending the day swapping candy hearts with your significant other or hitting the movie theatres to see a certain lust-filled movie (okay, it’s Fifty Shades Darker) with your girlfriends (or you’re doing both, because you should never forget about your girls!) this is the perfect Valentine’s Day Makeup. Read below for all the details.

Hello everyone! I’ve been waiting to break out the insanely beautiful MAC Spellbinder Shadow in Mysterious Influence for a twist on a smokey eye, so I did today for this makeup look. I will say while these shadows are beautiful, they are very finicky to work with. I would recommend applying your foundation after your eyeshadow, and tapping any excess powder off your brush because the fallout from this was crazy! Needless to say even with some not-so-great attributes, I really loved the way this color looked on the eyes. Read below for how I achieved this look, and I’ll have some Valentine’s Day posts coming up soon ūüôā

Foundation: Fiona Stiles Luminous Finish Foundation in 01 Porcelain

Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair

Powder: Kat Von D Lock-It Translucent Powder (only apply on under eyes because I’m very dry!)

Brows: Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil in #5 and Benefit ka-BROW! in #4

Eyeshadows: Steps in order of application

  1. Lid: Colorpop Valley Girl Supershock Shadow all over the lid
  2. Crease: Morphe 35O row 1, shade 6 (khaki brown shade) and row 3, shade 2 (light, neutral brown)
  3. Outer Lid and Inner 1/3 lid: MAC Spellbinder Shadow in Mysterious Influence (applied with a MAC 242, and my finger to blend, a blending brush has too much fallout with this shadow)
  4. Lid: Applied more of Valley Girl in the center of the lid
  5. Outer lid: Used some of Kat Von D’s Jet shadow from the Metal Matte palette to darken the very outer part of the lid. Can use any black shadow.
  6. Lower lashline: Morphe 35O row 5, shade 2 (golden bronze), then blended Mysterious Influence with that, then used a black shadow with a definer brush close to lower lashes to deepen.
  7. Browbone and Inner corner: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights

Eyeliner: NYX Matte Liquid Liner and L’Oreal Silkissime in Black

Lashes: Eylure Luxe Lashes in Baroque

Blush: Milani Berry Amore Blush

Highlighter: Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights

Lips: Colorpop Grunge Pencil, Urban Decay Vice Lipstick 1993 and L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paint in Nude Star

Necklace: BaubleBar

Dress: Asos

Hello Halo: Romantic Halo Eye Look For V-Day

IMG_3938

So it’s Valentine’s Day weekend, or Galentine’s Day weekend or love yourself weekend, whatever it may be a Halo eye makeup look is calling your name. This style eye makeup, where you use a darker color on the outer and inner corner, and a lighter, often shimmery shade on the center lid, is my latest obsession. This is a recreation of the makeup look the Queen of Eye Makeup, Jaclyn Hill, did here. This look is honestly natural enough for everyday, but adds that little pop of allure and sexiness to your eyes depending on the shades you pick. I also have decided 2016 is the comeback of satin and more glossy lip looks. Colourpop is releasing a satin lip collection on Thursday that looks swoon-worthy, and I couldn’t be more relieved. I think we all need a bit of a breather from all matte everything (not that I don’t like a good matte lip every once in a while). Below is the makeup look per usual and my top favorite romantic palettes, so tell your significant other if they’re stuck on a Valentine’s Day gift! Anyway have an amazing chocolate-induced weekend, pop in a romantic movie (even if that’s Magic Mike, like I will probably be watching; no shame here!), and definitely recreate this look!

Primer: BECCA Backlight Priming Filter

Foundation: Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in Warm Porcelain

Concealer: NYX HD Concealer in Porcelain

Powder: Maybelline FaceStudio Translucent Powder

Brows: Maybelline Brow Define and Fill Duo in Deep Brown to shape brows (used pencil end) and NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder in Brunette (deepest shade) to fill in. NYX Brow Mascara in Espresso to set.

Eyeshadows: Used LORAC Pro Palette for the whole eye look, other than a Mac Pigment.

  • Crease: Taupe then used Mauve slightly above the crease with a MAC 224.
  • Outer lid:¬†Sable with a teeny bit of Espresso in the outer V to deepen used a MAC 217.
  • Inner lid:¬†Sable, really build this to a diffused brown with a blending brush, I used the MAC 217. Don’t put in inner corner where you’d highlight. This gives rounded eyes more of an almond shape.
  • Lid:¬†Champagne, then topped with MAC pigment in Tan. Spritzed my MAC 242 brush with Fix + then applied the pigment.
  • Browbone:¬†Nude
  • Lower lashline:¬†Sable blended out with Mauve on a pencil brush.
  • Inner corner highlight:¬†BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop

Lashes:¬†L’Oreal Carbon Black Telescopic with Ardell Wispies 600 lashes. These are STUNNING and so romantic. These must be new, I can’t find them online. I got mine at CVS. These are very similar to House of Lashes Bambi.

Eyeliners: Jordana Cat Eye Liner in Black Leather just to line lashband and Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Nude.

Blush: Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink

Highlighter: BECCA Champagne Pop (applied on the bridge of my nose, above my brows, and cheekbones.

Kiss-Proof Valentine’s Day Looks

IMG_3705IMG_3697 (1)

Hi beauties! If you’ve noticed something different about my page you would be correct; I changed the layout¬†and¬†URL for my blog, which you can now share with your friends as abeautycapsule.com! I’m super excited to take this step towards a newer look and feel. Anyway, today I’m here to recommend my favorite kiss-proof lipstick options, even if you are only kissing you pet this V-day like moi, haha. I also have two makeup looks, warning the red lip was NOT kiss proof, but I will give red lip options that are. I’m also going to give you some Valentine’s Day date night options; so all in all this is a jammed packed post. I would like to get a romantic halo smokey eye look up before V-day as well. But for now read on for some lovely looks.

Best Lipsticks for Smooching

*Disclaimer: These are what work best for me. Performance can change based on lip care, eating and drinking. For best wear time I apply a lip balm, let it sink in for a few minutes, then pat it off a bit and then I apply my liquid lipstick. Also, I find any high-pigment lipstick is going to have some transfer. To eliminate I’d pat with a tissue.¬†

Icy Blue Holiday Look: Colourpop Blitzed Collection

ice blue holiday makeup look

It’s that time of year, where dramatic and glittery makeup looks are out to play. I’m of course talking about holiday makeup looks. There are countless options for holiday makeup looks this season, you could always go with the classic red lip and winged eyeliner, or you can try something a bit off the traditional path like the look above. Holiday looks have become even easier to create, and more glam than ever before with the slew of holiday palettes that hit the market this time of year. Just check out your local Sephora or Ulta and start putting beautiful palettes on your wishlist.

The palette I used is actually from my all-time favorite affordable brand, Colourpop Cosmetics. It’s their holiday¬†Blitzed Palette, which features six stunning Supershock Shadows. The shadows are actually more cool toned, accept one spellbinding gold, and it was fun experimenting with the cool grays and blues. Not gonna lie, this look has Winter Wonderland written all over it, and is perfect for any party. I really love this for a Hanukkah look because of the stunning blues. As always, ¬†swatches¬†and makeup details are below. Have a great holiday, I’ll have more looks coming!

Product

FullSizeRender (19) colourpop blitzed palette

This palette retails for $30, and the case is super nice and strudy. This must be new packaging for Colourpop and I love it. There’s a magnetic closure and mirror, which is perfect for travel, you could even mix and match your favorite Colourpop shadows and store them in here. The quality, like always, is on point. You can’t go wrong with buying this for a Secret Santa party of for yourself, teehee.

Vegas Nay for Too Faced Star Dust Palette Review

Vegas Nay Too Faced Makeup Look

Hello fellow makeup nerds of the world, let the Force be with you today, even if it only is the makeup force ūüôā So as I was scrolling through Instagram the MOST beautiful palette I had ever seen waltzed across my screen, I bet you can guess which palette I’m talking about? Yes, no? Well it’s the Vegas Nay Too Faced Cosmetics Star Dust Palette. This palette is everything I had dreamed about, it features deep burgundys, a matte camel color, vibrant purples and stunning coppers and browns. I immediately knew I wanted to do a look with the purpley colors because everyone uses brown and gold, and I love purple on green eyes. So I did a glam smokey eye with this 12-shadow, $45 palette which is an Ulta Exclusive and will be in stores September 6th. The palette also included a sample of the Too Face Shadow Insurance Primer, Better Than Sex Mascara and their Loose Glitter Pigment in Nude Bean. Below is everything you need to know including swatches, product photos, a review and makeup look.

Product Review:

Star Dust Palette DSC00272 DSC00275 DSC00290

This product claims to be a $192 palette for only $45 dollars. Realistically this palette is priced in the ball park of most other palettes with this amount of shadows, except for the LORAC Pro Palettes which have 4 more shadows and retail for the same price. Compared to many of Too Faces’ other palettes these shadows are significantly larger and do include the samples. This palette also features colors that can go in quads so you know which shadows work best together.

The palette features four matte shades while the rest have shimmer or extreme sparkle. Surprisingly, the sparkle shades had better color pay off than the shimmer shades, which I thought were very meh. For me Jackpot and Showgirl, the bronze shades, were beautiful but I have similar colors in my Naked palette. Unfortunately, the colors I was lusting over, Follow me (vibrant purple), Double Tap (deep red-brown with violet shimmer) and The Strip (silver mauve) all took a bit to build up and The Strip had fallout. Millennial (matte warm brown) was really nice and so was #selfie (cream-white with silver shimmer). Sin City (matte black) wasn’t even close to the best black I have, LORAC’s reigns supreme, and took a while to build up, but blended nicely.

Overall for me this palette was a let down, I will definitely use it because I love the colors but the quality just wasn’t great. No shadow was buttery, they did apply nice with the primer, but I had to build up every shade I used up. I say if you have Urban Decay’s Naked 1 palette and the LORAC Pro Palette you really don’t¬†need¬†this unless you’re lusting over this color combo all in one palette. I don’t regret this purchase it’s just let me down a bit, but on the plus the Loose Glitter that came with is amazeballs. Overall I’d give this palette a¬†7/10.

Too Faced Born This Way Review and Punk Rock Roots Makeup Look

Punk rock makeup using Kat Von DGood afternoon lovelys! I’ve had a crazy busy August, sorry for the lack of posts– but I am back with another review/makeup look. I recently went to Chicago, I seriously recommend visiting if you haven’t, it’s amazing, and while I was there I was able to go to Sephora. In my rinky dink Jersey town we have yet to get a Sephora, but a Chipotle is on its way so maybe I can be optimistic about a certain beauty store? Anyway, while I was there I picked up the stunning Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Raw Power, which is a shimmery maroon stunner and is the color I used for my lower lashline. Below is also a review of the new Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and this punk rock inspired makeup look.

Review

In the past few weeks I picked up the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Porcelain, and yes it lives up to the Youtube/Instagram hype. It’s a bit pricey at $39, but it covers all of my redness without concealer and features a satiny finish that doesn’t make me dry, but still has a natural skin finish. I’ve applied this with a Real Techniques Beauty Blender, Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and the It Cosmetics For Ulta Airbrush Buffing Foundation Brush in #110. I honestly think any of these options apply the foundation evenly and with a full coverage, MakeupByAlli has a great tutorial for how she applies this, which I think really helps if you prefer a brush to a beauty blender like I do. The color selection is also pretty wide with 12 shades, but one of my close friends couldn’t find her shade as she is slightly darker than the darkest shade, Caramel, and she is a caramel shade so keep that in mind! The only downfall of this foundation is it only wears about 6 and a half hours, but if you use a primer and some Fix + you’ll get more like 8. I’ve never been a huge fan of higher end foundations, but this one truly changed my mind– it matches me perfectly, wears beautifully and has a pump! Can’t beat that.¬†Rating: 9.5/10

Pink smokey eye

For this look I wanted to channel my inner punk child, yes inside I am always wearing dark lipstick and wanting to riff on a guitar, so while digging through my makeup I found the Supershock Shadow by Colourpop Cosmetics in Erotic, which screamed Bay Avenue punk scene to me. Maybelline The Smokes Review and Makeup Look

Maybelline The Smokes Makeup Look The Smokes Palette I’ve¬†been on a drugstore hunt for Maybelline’s Blushing Nudes Palette, but sadly my Walgreens was sold out. But instead I found Maybelline’s The Smokes. I don’t do a smokey eye often, and I know it’s difficult¬†to get smokey shadows from the drugstore that blend well and have great pigment, so I picked up this 12 shadow palette. Below is a product info, review, swatches and a makeup look. Also I’ll have a surprise for you guys in the next week or so!

Review

Maybelline The Smokes

This palette retails between $9.99 and $12, the cheapest place to find is Ulta. The palette features 12-smokey eyeshadows, they’re all shimmering, but the shimmer comes off the brown and navy for a more matte look. It also comes with a sponge applicator but I’d use a brush. Verdict? Honestly, I’d skip this palette, yes the price is good, but the quality is pretty bad. You’ll be able to see in th swatches below, but these eyeshadows lacked pigment and were difficult to blend. I was able to get a nice look with a primer base, but I really had to build up on the lid. I’d give this palette a 4/10. If you want a smokey look for an affordable price, I’d look into L’Oreal’s La Nude Palettes. I have a review here.
