These Are My Impressions: L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation and Modern Renaissance Palette Review

IMG_7616

Happy summer loves! There are so so many great products hitting the market and I want them to review them all, but I’m trying to take on a few at a time so you can get the best of the best as soon as possible and skip on the rest. This week I’m reviewing the L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation, which I was ecstatic to try. The L’Oreal Pro Matte is an awesome drugstore, but wasn’t a great fit fit for my drier skin, so when I heard they were releasing a glowy version I jumped on it.

I’m also reviewing the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. I was a bit hesitant to grab the first permanent eyeshadow palette by them because pinky and red eyeshadows don’t really flatter my fair skin, but I swatched it in Ulta and was very intrigued. Anyway read below for my full thoughts! I’ve simplified my reviews so they’re not so long! Let me know if you like this style 🙂

L’Oreal Pro Glow

IMG_7590

  • Price: $12.99
  • Found mine: Walgreens
  • Available online: Ulta; buy here
  • My shade: 201 Classic Ivory
  • Shade range: 12
  • Size: 1 oz
  • Coverage: Buildable and Medium/Full
  • SPF: 15
  • Finish: Radiant
  • Favorite way to apply: It Cosmetics Airbrush Buffing Foundation Brush #110 or Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
  • Longevity: 10 hours
  • Final thoughts: This foundation is my new drugstore favorite. It gives a medium to full coverage and just the right amount of glow without making you a sweaty mess, especially with the warmer weather. The shade range isn’t extensive like L’Oreal’s True Match line which is a bummer, but I love the shade for my skin tone. If I actually get some color this summer (unlikely, but a girl can hope!) I’m not sure how well another shade will work. This foundation is really on par with a high end foundation and wear beautifully between 8-10 hours, the bottle claims “24 hours”, but really L’Oreal who are you kidding! Anyway with that, if you’re dry to normal skin I would definitely pick this up! If not you always have the Pro Matte version which is the same wear and coverage.

  • Price: $42
  • Found mine: Ulta
  • Available online: Yes; buy here
  • Shimmers: 4
  • Mattes: 10
  • Pigment: 9/10
  • Longevity: 9 hours
  • Brush quality: Super soft, easy to use for blending and blends shadows seamlessly.
  • Final thoughts: This is an eyeshadow palette I was honestly going to skip. I haven’t even watched my favorite beauty guru’s put it to action because I wasn’t that interested. Believe me I thought this palette was stunning and romantic, but not great for my fair skin. Magentas and reds do not pair well with my pinky undertones. Even for tried and true palettes like the Naked 3, I never grab for because I think the colors make me look sickly. But boy was I wrong with this palette. The colors look beautiful on the eyes, and blend like a dream. I used the blending brush that came with this palette to blend out the crease, and it worked amazing. I used the shader side to blend out the lower lashline, and I also really like the brush, which I usually skip on palettes. The only negative for me with this palette is you get a lot of fallout when you dip your brush in, but if you tap it off a little you’re golden. Fallout doesn’t really deter me as it usually means the shadows are buttery and pigmented, which these are. I really think this will be a new favorite! I love that there’s so many vibrant mattes and unique mattes (I’m so over the standard browns) and a few stunning shimmers that I can actually wear day to day or out.

The New List: Review of New Summer Makeup + Makeup Look

IMG_7102

Good afternoon lovelies! I’m so so sorry I’ve been MIA, the month of May was crazy busy for me as I started a new position at work and had some big events like my sister’s college graduation which I had to be out of town for. I’m back and ready to be on my more consistent posting schedule, and play with some makeup!  This week I’ve decided to review some new products including the Ofra x Manny MUA liquid lipsticks, Makeup Revolution Highlighters and Urban Decay’s One and Done Foundation. Next week I think I’m going to whip up a bright summer makeup look using the NYX Brights Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette and do a review of that. I used some of the shadows from that palette for this look, but I think it deserves it’s own post! Anyway, I’ll stop rambling and get into the reviews down below!

Urban Decay One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector $34

This foundation is more or less a hybrid between a beauty balm, concealer and foundation. What this means for us is you get a light to medium coverage, this definitely doesn’t build to full, that is lightweight and provides pretty good coverage. I use the shade light, which is supposed to cover skin tones 0.5-3.25 based on Urban Decay’s other Naked Skin Foundation colors. I was definitely hesitant to commit to this as the color looked darker than what my super light skin could handle, so I first got a sample. The color is a teensy bit dark but if you get any sort of color in the summer this will work fine if you’re fair. I don’t get tan by any means but I do go up usually one to two shades.

I purchased the full size and really think this is a great summer foundation as it is really light on the skin, while still evening out my skintone. The bottle features a pump which is wonderful for bringing this on the go, and this product has SPF 20 which also sold me for summertime wear. For reference there are five shades, which cover a pretty large spectrum and they all have a range like the Light shade. This is a foundation I can see for workdays and outside summer events, but the coverage isn’t great for a special occasion. This wore on me for about 7 hours. I’d give this a product an 8/10 overall.

Shades from left to right: Aries, Charmed, Hypno

MannyxOFRA Lip Set $49.70 (Individually sold for $19.90)

I’ve always been a huge fan of OFRA Cosmetics liquid lipsticks: they’re a whipped formula, not too heavy and they stay like a dream, especially my favorite red named appropriately for me, Atlantic City. So I swoopd in on the Manny shades as the were limited edition, but lucky for you they are permanent now. Manny MUA is a Youtube and Instagram beauty guru, and I’ve actually never watched his videos (I have to get on that), but I saw so many other beauty guru’s wearing these gorgeous shades I knew I had to have them!  These colors did not disappoint (I have arm and lip swatches below) and they wear beautifully.

The first and lightest shade, Aries, is a peachy nude on me unlike any other color I own as far as nude lipsticks go, and I like it so much better on than when I originally saw it. It gives that punch of color without washing me out and it wears for about 6 hours, and is easy to build if you need to touch up a bit. The second shade, Charmed, is my favorite. It’s a mid-tone pink with a hint of berry that is just the perfect everyday color. I also think this shade wears the best of them all longevity wise at about 7 hours. The third shade, Hypno, I did not like on me at first. It was one of those shades I felt wasn’t dark enough to be vampy and was too dark to wear as a mauve shade. The color has grown on me, but this is also the driest formula. Not that it cracks or anything, it’s just not as airy as the other two shades. I think Kathleen Lights Havana Nights shade is a way way better option if you want a vampy and super comfortable shade, but I think that buying Manny’s set is still a great investment for the nude-mauve lip lover. I’m not going to rate the set, as I think they all wear a bit differently, but I do think it’s a good purchase. Also, OFRA is always offering 30% off so check out their social media sites!

Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighters in Golden Lights and Radiance Lights $6 each

I’ve been hearing about the brand Makeup Revolution a little bit on Youtube and never really had the desire to try anything until I read an article that Khloe Kardashian loves their Radiance Lights highlighter. Say what you will about the Kardashian’s, but they know their shit when it comes to the glow life. So, while I was in Ulta I picked up two shades, Golden Lights and Radiance Lights, and I will say I don’t love Radiance. It doesn’t kick off enough va-vam factor for me, but Golden Lights is amazing for fair skin. It is one of the most intense highlighters I’ve used especially at a drugstore price. I will say these are on the powdery side, but I think that Golden is a great buy. If you have more olive skin Radiance might show more, but it really didn’t give me an intense highlighted effect. I’d rate Golden at a 8/10 and Radiance a 5/10.

Music Muse Makeup: Festival Season

IMG_6424

When Coachella hits its officially festival season. I’m sure like me, many of you have lusted over the perfectly mused, slightly lived-in makeup and outfit vibes of Victoria’s Secret models, musicians and fashion bloggers. My motto for a great festival look is bronze, highlight and a pop of color. I love to use bronzes for festival looks as they give that desert vibe that looks messy yet chic. With so many festival or even just summer concerts, I’m already booked for Beyonce and The Lumineers!, you can wear a bronzy look like this all summer long. Keep reading for how I got this look.

Makeup Look

IMG_6414IMG_6415

Moisturizer: Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Gel in SPF 15 (so important to wear sunscreen to any outdoor event this season. I like to use a moisturizer with SPF and a foundation/BB cream with one too).

Foundation: Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector in Light. (This features SPF 20 and has both foundation and concealer properties so you only need one step! For this look I used concealer as well, but you definitely don’t need it).

Concealer: Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral.

Powder: Maybelline MasterFix loose powder

Brows: Colourpop Brow Pencils in Bangin’ Brunette and Black N’ Brown (previously blog post shows how I use these). Topped with NYX brow mascara in Espresso

Eyeshadows:

  • Crease: Too Faced PB&J Palette shade Peanut Butter (any warm soft matte shadow will do)
  • Lid and Inner Corner : Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeshadow in Forever Sand (I buy mine at Walgreens; a liquid or cream eyeshadow gives that highlighted gleam and won’t budge).
  • Browbone: Too Faced PB&J Extra Creamy (any off white shadow will work)
  • Lower lashline: Too Faced PB&J Peanut Brittle with the darker bronze shade in the Carli Bybel palette on the outside. Her lighter bronze would work in place of Peanut Brittle.

Liners:

Lashes: L’Oreal Carbon Blac Telescopic Mascara with Ardell Demi Wispies cut in half on the outer lash. (Cut your lashes in half for a more natural lash look, honestly I’d just go with mascara for a festival).

Bronzer: L’Oreal Glam Bronze in Light $14.99. So I could not find this online at all. It’s a new limited edition bronzer and you get a very large pan. I think the color is a bit cool, but it is pretty great for really fair skin like mine. I didn’t think it looked muddy at all. I put photos below incase you find this in-store; I got mine at Walgreens.

Highlighters: MAC x Rihanna RiRi Hearts Cream Higlighter in Diamonds (this is from 2013, but any liquid or cream gold highlighter will do I love Benefit’s Watts Up as well). I topped this with the gold shade in the Carli Bybel palette (3rd highlighter in). Get your paws on her palette soon, it’s going to be discontinued in June!

Blush: NYX Ombre Blush in Strictly Chic

Lips: Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Tansy topped with an old Bath and Body Works gloss (any tinted gloss with shimmer will work) You defintely want a no fuss lip look for these types of events. I love Colourpop’s Ultra Satin lips, they’ll stay all day and wear comfortably.

Top: Forever 21 Festival Collection (similar here and here)

Necklace: ASOS Pieces Benna Statment Necklace (sold out :(, but I love ASOS’s costume jewelry, it lasts long and looks/feel expensive without Urban Outfitters prices) Type in silver statement necklace in their search and you’ll find a ton of similar options.

Summer Glow for Pale Girls: Using Champagne Pop by Jaclyn Hill

Highlight for pale skin IMG_9320

Hello lovely’s! Summer is in full swing and I wanted to focus on summer highlighters, especially for girls who rock that fair skin all year-round (I can’t get a tan to save my life, but practicing safe sun is more important!). I’ve always loved that glow from within look, the one that J Lo looks like she bathes in, it’ so unfair guys! But finding a highlighter for my pale and freckly skin, which get more inhabited by pesky freckle dots in the summer, has always been a challenge. So when Becca Cosmetics teamed up with one of my favorite beauty Youtuber’s, Jaclyn Hill, I knew I wanted to try out her highlighter, Champagne Pop. The color is a stunning golden peach, and gold highlighters have always been a challenge as it can look muddy on my skin.

Jaclyn wanted this highlighter to work for all skin tones, which I’m always skeptical about when companies say that, but she specifically called out fair-skinned girls,  click here for Jaclyn’s Youtube, as her sister is fair and looks marvelous in this highlight (I stalked out her Instagram rachelbarkules to see if they hype for all of us wearing shade Porcelain was true).

I can’t speak and say this will work for all skin tones, but it definitely takes the cake for me as far as the best highlighter I’ve tried for pale skin. As soon as I put it on I obtained that sunbeam glow I’ve always wanted. I applied with an IT Cosmetics fan brush, and in one stroke I was shimmering and shining beautifully. I did not have to build this up to get a great glow, but because I’m a lil extra I doused myself.

Unfortunately, this is limited edition and a bit pricey at $38 but it was worth every penny. I say get your hands on this now my fellow alabaster queens, because you may never get a glow like this again. Purchase at Sephora here.

Blurred Beauty: Maybelline Color Blur Matte Lip Pencils

Maybelinne Color Blur Matte Lipsticks Maybelline Color Blur I'm Blushing

Hello beauty world, sorry I’ve been M.I.A. for a sec, but I’ve been looking for a new product to review and was finally inspired by the new Maybelline Color Blur Matte Lip Pencils. I picked up three shades, I’m Blushing which is the shade above and is a dusty light pink shade. Cherry Cherry Bang Bang which is a cherry red, obviously, with a pinky undertone, and Berry Misbehaved which is a bright berry color, not quite fuchsia, but a very punchy pink. I picked mine up at Target for $7.99 a piece. These lip pencils features a sponge side to blend from the middle of lips for a more flushed lip look seen here, in Allure Magazine. You can wear them as a full matte lip like I am above or wear it blurred out, I also think these are great to create a ombre lip. Sidenote: I also got a Keratin Express treatment, my hair is really wavy and awful with frizz in the summer, so I’ll let you know if it’s worth it!

Review

Maybellien Colorblur

I wore each of these lipsticks on separate occasions and wore Berry Misbehaved and I’m Blushing ombred together. I also smudged my lips out with Berry Misbehaved and Cherry Cherry Bang Bang. The applicator for the product is super easy to use and define for a clean lip look. The pencil is creamy and easy to use to line and fill in lips with no significant bleeding. The spongy applicator is great for spreading product from the center out, its soft enough not to chafe lips, yet hard enough it doesn’t smear product.

  • I’m Blushing: This color is definitely the most everyday color I picked up, and I love it alone and as a ombre outer lip option. It pairs great with the other two colors I picked up. This pencil had the least staying power, but still held up for about 5 hours while I drank throughout that time. It faded significantly when I ate, but it’s a light shade so it didn’t leave any discoloration. I’ll definitely reach for it a lot because it’s so versatile. Score: 8.5/10
  • Berry Misbehaved: I love this color for every season and the small point of the pencil makes it easy to apply. I liked this color the best to “blur” out. It looked like that beautiful flush you’ve always wanted, kind of like when you eat a pink popsicle. It lasted really long even after eating about 8 hours. It can get messy like any lipstick if applied around your lipline, but that’s not really a deterrent for me! Score: 9.5/10
  • Cherry Cherry Bang Bang: This kind of color to me is the perfect summer red; it’s that gorgeous retro color. Once again it’s easy to apply, with or without liner, and this baby stays. This lasted on me 8 hours as well while eating, with very little fading. I do not like to blur this out though, it looks very messy if you’re not super precise, but as a matte lipstick it’s a great summer red. Score: 9.5/10

Overall I love these, as I love most of Maybelline’s matte lip products. I think they beat out even the high-end matte lipsticks. The closet product to these for me is Colour Pop’s Matte Lippie Stix, but they’re not as matte as these Maybelline lip pencils. As far as matte lip products go you can’t go wrong picking up a few of these, they’re more precise than Maybelline’s matte lipsticks as well.

New Colourpop Highlighters Review and Affordable Makeup Look

FullSizeRender (11)

Hi guys sorry it’s been a bit since I’ve posted. I’m graduating college tomorrow and things have been a bit hectic. I also am working on a revamp for a new blog, hopefully coming soon! Anyway a few days ago I received the new Colourpop Highlighters and some of their new spring eyeshadows and a lipstick. The reviews and this makeup look are down below, and for all my girls graduating, congrats! Find all products at colourpop.com.

Review

IMG_7471

Above are all the products I picked up, I got four highlighters at $8 each, four eyeshadows at $5 each and a lippie stix also $5. I love Colourpop’s consistent affordability and free shipping on $30 (believe me it isn’t difficult to spend $30 bucks there!). Below are my reviews for each category and swatches.

Highlighters:

IMG_7460 IMG_7479

From left to right is: Sticky Sweet, Butterfly Beach, Spoon and Wisp

Yes, I purchased basically all gold tone highlighters. Even though I have fair skin I just love a gold highlight, and when I received these the three gold tones looked almost the same. But fear not, they are different! Also, I’m giving all of these an A++++, they’re the most beautiful glows I’ve ever used, and long wearing. I like them even above my Becca highlighter. I apply mine with my fingers.

  1. Sticky Sweet: This highlighter is a bright magenta, and its fierceness is real. I would def wear this as a blush, not really a highlight. But the pigmentation is insanely beautiful.
  2. Butterfly Beach: This warm golden highlighter will give even fair-skinned girls that J.Lo glow. I was hesitant of this highlighter as I thought it would be too golden for my skin, but it’s turned into my favorite that I ordered. I’ve had a hard time with highlighters showing up with that in your face effect because of my freckles and fair skin. This one solves that problem.
  3. Spoon: Spoon is the lightest gold of the bunch. It has more of a champagne undertone and glittery flecks.
  4. Wisp: Wisp is slightly lighter than Butterfly Beach but still gives a beautiful sheen. I love this for everyday use.

 Eyeshadows:

IMG_7467 IMG_7478

From bottom to top: Taco, Shop, Snapdragon and Hello

Taco: Taco is matte and a mid-tone aqua, that reminds me of 70’s mod. I think this would look great on the lower lashline or all over the lid with a nude lip. The pigmentation is great and goes on in one swipe. 9/10

Shop: I love reddy-corals like Shop. This color is also matte and goes on intense. Colors like this make green and hazel eyes pop! 10/10

Snapdragon: Snapdragon is an earthy mint color, and I’m a sucker for mint. This is a great summer staple that can be worn alone or blended with a yellow or blue for a night out. 10/10

Hello: This color screamed summer, but its performance was lackluster for me. I think compared to many powder eyeshadow yellows it’s great. But as far as Colourpop’s usual standout pigmentation it fell a bit for me. But for $5 if you want a yellow that will show, this is a great option. 7/10.

Lippie Stix:

IMG_7484

Yasmin Lippie Stix: Yasmin is an electric coral, matte lipstick. I am obsessed with this color. I think for summer it’s so sexy and cool girl chic, depending on what you’re wearing. Yasmin goes on opaque, doesn’t dry out lips and stays pretty darn good. This will definitely be a summer handbag staple. 9/10
