Kiss-Proof Valentine’s Day Looks

IMG_3705IMG_3697 (1)

Hi beauties! If you’ve noticed something different about my page you would be correct; I changed the layout and URL for my blog, which you can now share with your friends as abeautycapsule.com! I’m super excited to take this step towards a newer look and feel. Anyway, today I’m here to recommend my favorite kiss-proof lipstick options, even if you are only kissing you pet this V-day like moi, haha. I also have two makeup looks, warning the red lip was NOT kiss proof, but I will give red lip options that are. I’m also going to give you some Valentine’s Day date night options; so all in all this is a jammed packed post. I would like to get a romantic halo smokey eye look up before V-day as well. But for now read on for some lovely looks.

Best Lipsticks for Smooching

*Disclaimer: These are what work best for me. Performance can change based on lip care, eating and drinking. For best wear time I apply a lip balm, let it sink in for a few minutes, then pat it off a bit and then I apply my liquid lipstick. Also, I find any high-pigment lipstick is going to have some transfer. To eliminate I’d pat with a tissue.

  • Reds
  • Pinks/Magentas
    • ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in More Better
    • OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Mina

Edgy Holiday Makeup Look For the Girls Sick of Red Lips

IMG_2511 IMG_2502

This season I’ve really been struggling with holiday makeup looks; now I love a classic red lip and shimmering gold eye as much as the next ornament obsessed girl but let’s face it, it’s not quite innovative. For Christmas Eve, I’m already planning an emerald-green eye, I’ll be sure to post and try to get this up early for anyone who wants to wear it that day! Anyway, this leads me to today’s look. This makeup was really inspired by Colourpop’s Creme Gel liner in the stunning Best O, which is a burgundy shade to die for. I especially love this color on green eyes, and honestly it’s what I’ve always wanted MAC’s Cocoa Riche liner to look like but it really doesn’t (BTW Colourpop makes Best O in a matte liner). I think this liner is an edgier, yet softer option than black especially for holiday parties. Below are all the deats for what I used for this whole look!

Makeup Look

IMG_2503

  • Primer: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water
  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain (I’m dying to try something new; I love this but I want to switch it up. Any suggestions for this girl with dry skin are appreciated!)
  • Concealer: Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral
  • Brows: Maybelline Eye Studio Brow Define and Fill Duo in Deep Brown (I actually love this pencil, and the powder side gives a really natural brow effect)
  • Eyeshadows: All LORAC Pro Palette– Crease: Taupe, Lid: LT.Pink, Browbone: Nude. Similar colors: Catrice Velvet Matt Eyeshadow in Pink-Up Girls, NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadow in Birthday Suit
  • Inner corner glitter: Revlon Photoready Eyeart in Topaz Twinkle (I think this is a great glitter option if you don’t want to mess with adhesives/can’t find makeup glitter in a pinch. It doesn’t last more than about 5 hours, but for a party it’s perfect)
  • Eyeliner: Colourpop Best O Creme Gel Eyeliner. L’Oreal Silkissime Liner in Charcoal
  • Mascara: L’Oreal Telescopic in Carbon Black
  • Lashes: Velour Silk Lashes for Sephora in the style Fluff n’ Whispie (These are stunning and so, so comfortable. I want the whole line, that’s how much love I have) Also, I always use House of Lashes lash glue, the best by far.
  • Blush: Tarte Holiday Blush Palette 2014, shade Embraced. Similar: Tarte Blushing Bride Blush, Catrice Illuminating Blush in Kiss Me Ken
  • Highlight: The Balm Mary Lou-Minzer, applied on top of the cheeks, nose, cupid’s bow, and above the eyebrows.
  • Lipliner: Jordana Tawny
  • Lips: OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Pasadena and Santa Ana (you could probably just use Santa Ana, as it basically covers over Pasadena). Let me know if you’d like a review on OFRA!

Icy Blue Holiday Look: Colourpop Blitzed Collection

ice blue holiday makeup look

It’s that time of year, where dramatic and glittery makeup looks are out to play. I’m of course talking about holiday makeup looks. There are countless options for holiday makeup looks this season, you could always go with the classic red lip and winged eyeliner, or you can try something a bit off the traditional path like the look above. Holiday looks have become even easier to create, and more glam than ever before with the slew of holiday palettes that hit the market this time of year. Just check out your local Sephora or Ulta and start putting beautiful palettes on your wishlist.

The palette I used is actually from my all-time favorite affordable brand, Colourpop Cosmetics. It’s their holiday Blitzed Palette, which features six stunning Supershock Shadows. The shadows are actually more cool toned, accept one spellbinding gold, and it was fun experimenting with the cool grays and blues. Not gonna lie, this look has Winter Wonderland written all over it, and is perfect for any party. I really love this for a Hanukkah look because of the stunning blues. As always,  swatches and makeup details are below. Have a great holiday, I’ll have more looks coming!

Product

FullSizeRender (19) colourpop blitzed palette

This palette retails for $30, and the case is super nice and strudy. This must be new packaging for Colourpop and I love it. There’s a magnetic closure and mirror, which is perfect for travel, you could even mix and match your favorite Colourpop shadows and store them in here. The quality, like always, is on point. You can’t go wrong with buying this for a Secret Santa party of for yourself, teehee.

Dark Romance: Carli Bybel Palette Look and Review

Dark Lip Romantic Eye Carli Bybel Palette

Good morning all my fellow makeup mavens! Or at least it’s morning while I’m writing this; now that I’m out of my Halloween makeup looks (so sad, you can view my C3PO look on my Instagram) I’m really excited to delve into all the products I’d bought in October. The first product I needed to get my hands dirty with and my face pretty with is the BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette. Carli Bybel is probably my favorite Beauty Youtuber, she’s a fellow New Jerseyian, and absolutely stunning with a big heart. About 4 million other people must envy her beautiful makeup because this palette sold out at lightning speeds. At only $12.50, with 14 gorgeous plum, mauve, gold, and coppery eyeshadows, and 4 stunning highlighters, why wouldn’t this baby be a hit? I had never tried anything from BH before this palette, and I will say their process for getting the items to the consumer was a bit half hazard. Anyway, enough about processes! Look below for a review, swatches, and a full makeup look using this palette. Order your’s here, it’s out of stock for now, but hopefully it’ll come back soon.

Review

inside the carli bybel palette

So as I had mentioned above, I’ve never used BH Cosmetics products. But this palette was just too beautiful not to buy, and really inexpensive, which had me a bit skeptical because even drugstore brands like Maybelline and L’Oreal who have their own palettes can be a bit pricey. The packaging is a crisp white, which I’m sure I’ll get dirty, and it’s nothing super sturdy. The product inside is all I really care about, and I have to say these are pretty darn good. Some shades are a bit powdery, but nothing that has me freaking out over fallout, and they’re all pretty pigmented, especially the satiny/glitter shades. I really love that Carli choose shades that can be used for day or night, and have enough variety you’re not buying another knockoff Naked Palette. The shades to the left are perfect for highlighting and a softer look for school or work, the middle 6 are knockouts for everyday, and the last two will definitely vamp up your look. They lasted about 7 hours. I think the eyeshadows are a solid 9/10.

Now for the highlighters, there are 4 highlighters that range from a pale pale pink, to a fierce bronze. I will say I love that there are quality highlighters in this palette. It’s rare to ever find highlighters in a palette especially ones as good as these. The first two work best on my ghostly skin tone, but I can also get away with the third gold if I use a light hand or mix it; it’s very pigmented. The last shade doesn’t work as a highlight for me, but it’s well-suited for darker skin tones, and I can definitely use it as an eyeshadow because that shade is fierce. I don’t think I’ve ever found better drugstore priced highlighters. They get a 9.5/10.

I think this palette is an absolute steal. I really hope BH can stock this up before the holidays, because it would make a great gift for Secret Santa parties, your best friend, even yourself, if you’re so inclined. Carli did an amazing job, I may have to check out more BH after buying this palette.

Vegas Nay for Too Faced Star Dust Palette Review

Vegas Nay Too Faced Makeup Look

Hello fellow makeup nerds of the world, let the Force be with you today, even if it only is the makeup force 🙂 So as I was scrolling through Instagram the MOST beautiful palette I had ever seen waltzed across my screen, I bet you can guess which palette I’m talking about? Yes, no? Well it’s the Vegas Nay Too Faced Cosmetics Star Dust Palette. This palette is everything I had dreamed about, it features deep burgundys, a matte camel color, vibrant purples and stunning coppers and browns. I immediately knew I wanted to do a look with the purpley colors because everyone uses brown and gold, and I love purple on green eyes. So I did a glam smokey eye with this 12-shadow, $45 palette which is an Ulta Exclusive and will be in stores September 6th. The palette also included a sample of the Too Face Shadow Insurance Primer, Better Than Sex Mascara and their Loose Glitter Pigment in Nude Bean. Below is everything you need to know including swatches, product photos, a review and makeup look.

Product Review:

Star Dust Palette DSC00272 DSC00275 DSC00290

This product claims to be a $192 palette for only $45 dollars. Realistically this palette is priced in the ball park of most other palettes with this amount of shadows, except for the LORAC Pro Palettes which have 4 more shadows and retail for the same price. Compared to many of Too Faces’ other palettes these shadows are significantly larger and do include the samples. This palette also features colors that can go in quads so you know which shadows work best together.

The palette features four matte shades while the rest have shimmer or extreme sparkle. Surprisingly, the sparkle shades had better color pay off than the shimmer shades, which I thought were very meh. For me Jackpot and Showgirl, the bronze shades, were beautiful but I have similar colors in my Naked palette. Unfortunately, the colors I was lusting over, Follow me (vibrant purple), Double Tap (deep red-brown with violet shimmer) and The Strip (silver mauve) all took a bit to build up and The Strip had fallout. Millennial (matte warm brown) was really nice and so was #selfie (cream-white with silver shimmer). Sin City (matte black) wasn’t even close to the best black I have, LORAC’s reigns supreme, and took a while to build up, but blended nicely.

Overall for me this palette was a let down, I will definitely use it because I love the colors but the quality just wasn’t great. No shadow was buttery, they did apply nice with the primer, but I had to build up every shade I used up. I say if you have Urban Decay’s Naked 1 palette and the LORAC Pro Palette you really don’t need this unless you’re lusting over this color combo all in one palette. I don’t regret this purchase it’s just let me down a bit, but on the plus the Loose Glitter that came with is amazeballs. Overall I’d give this palette a 7/10.

Too Faced Born This Way Review and Punk Rock Roots Makeup Look

Punk rock makeup using Kat Von DGood afternoon lovelys! I’ve had a crazy busy August, sorry for the lack of posts– but I am back with another review/makeup look. I recently went to Chicago, I seriously recommend visiting if you haven’t, it’s amazing, and while I was there I was able to go to Sephora. In my rinky dink Jersey town we have yet to get a Sephora, but a Chipotle is on its way so maybe I can be optimistic about a certain beauty store? Anyway, while I was there I picked up the stunning Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Raw Power, which is a shimmery maroon stunner and is the color I used for my lower lashline. Below is also a review of the new Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and this punk rock inspired makeup look.

Review

In the past few weeks I picked up the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Porcelain, and yes it lives up to the Youtube/Instagram hype. It’s a bit pricey at $39, but it covers all of my redness without concealer and features a satiny finish that doesn’t make me dry, but still has a natural skin finish. I’ve applied this with a Real Techniques Beauty Blender, Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and the It Cosmetics For Ulta Airbrush Buffing Foundation Brush in #110. I honestly think any of these options apply the foundation evenly and with a full coverage, MakeupByAlli has a great tutorial for how she applies this, which I think really helps if you prefer a brush to a beauty blender like I do. The color selection is also pretty wide with 12 shades, but one of my close friends couldn’t find her shade as she is slightly darker than the darkest shade, Caramel, and she is a caramel shade so keep that in mind! The only downfall of this foundation is it only wears about 6 and a half hours, but if you use a primer and some Fix + you’ll get more like 8. I’ve never been a huge fan of higher end foundations, but this one truly changed my mind– it matches me perfectly, wears beautifully and has a pump! Can’t beat that. Rating: 9.5/10

Makeup Look

Pink smokey eye

For this look I wanted to channel my inner punk child, yes inside I am always wearing dark lipstick and wanting to riff on a guitar, so while digging through my makeup I found the Supershock Shadow by Colourpop Cosmetics in Erotic, which screamed Bay Avenue punk scene to me. Keep in mind it looks like a candy apple red but went on a more neon pink for me. That color along with Kat Von D’s Metal Crush shadow in Raw Power inspired this look. Below are all the deats that will make your momma squirm 😉
