Shoes: Dolce Vita (also few years ago) will update similar options soon!
Hi everyone! So spring is finally here even though the weather doesn’t quite feel like it in New Jersey, but I am already thinking about my spring wardrobe. I’ve put a list below of some of my favorite trends this year: florals with a twist in muted styles like the bodysuit I’m wearing above or vintage red rose designs, black and white pieces that are anything but boring, and feminine ruffles I’d wear with leather accents or a distressed denim to edge them up. Read below for all the looks and to see more looks on how I styled the body suit above, I’ve put more pictures below :).
Happy holidays everyone! With Christmas and Hanukkah right around the corner, I was thinking about what my foolproof holiday staples are. I’m talking about what red lip will stay on while sipping holiday cocktails or kissing under the mistletoe, and what glitters will sparkle all through the night, because let’s face it no one wants to deal with smeared lipstick and flaky glitter this season. Below are my top picks, as well as what I used to get the makeup look above. So read on, and snag some of these for your holiday get together!
Kissin’ Under the Mistletoe Worthy Red Lipsticks
These are in order from the most foolproof to more satiny versions that may stain a cup a bit but stay on through dinner.
MAC Glitter (any shade)$22 (This is the best glitter for all over the lid, it’s super opaque and wears beautifully throughout the night)
NYX Face and Body Glitter $5.99 (I love these when I first open them, but sadly after a few uses the glitter stops coming out, but if you need for one or two nights the price is right and the quality is great! Just wish it had better packaging)
Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art $8.99 (I only use the glitter liner side of these, and it goes on great. After a few hours it will flake a bit, but once again for the price point it’s a good glitter liner)
Happy soon to be holidays everyone! With a few weeks left to shop, and those Secret Santa and holiday parties right around the corner I wanted to provide a gift guide with options for every price range. Whether you’re looking for the perfect gift to swap with your friends at a White Elephant/Secret Santa party (because let’s be real it’s hard to find something everyone likes!) or you have no idea what to tell your aunt to get you this season, below are beauty and miscellaneous (fashion, jewelry, etc.) items that will always land you on the nice list! These are broken into category in case you’re looking for something specific; this post is a long one!
I included the three brush sets above because I love and use brushes from all these brands. Remember, don’t get trapped in “what’s pretty” or super affordable because you may be skimping on quality. These little makeup magic makers are both beautiful and in a price range you can afford! I’ve been lusting over the Morphe ones in particular. Also, anyone can use makeup brushes, so I think this is a perfect Secret Santa gift too.
I also think an eyeshadow palette is an awesome and universal gift to give this season. Gone are the days where low-price meant low quality. I personally use and love the Carli Bybel Palette and Morphe palette all of the time, and ColourPop’s range is perfect for the makeup beginner. I actually discovered MAC’s glitters in a holiday palette and they are my favorite glitters to this day. Unfortunately, you can only snag them in a holiday palette, at a pro store or online :(. The pricier palettes on this list have been star shadow palettes this year(the Too Faced Palette completely sold out once already!) so you won’t go wrong putting those under the tree!
One way to brighten anyone’s holiday morning is with a stunning highlighter or blush palette. Whether you’re looking to give more of a makeup everyday staple like the Tarte of Benefit cheek palettes (the Benefit one is almost sold out, not surprising as it features many of their bestsellers, but a few are still on Sephora). The Colourpop trio is perfect for any highlighter beginner or seasoned makeup lover as the colors are easy to apply and work across many skintones. I’m very fair and use darker shades like Butterfly Beach all of the time. The Laura Geller highlighters were at the top of everyone’s highlighter wish list this year, so this little trio gives the makeup lover some try-on options to find her highlighter holy grail. Also, you cannot go wrong with my favorite make-you-glisten-like-an-ice-queen highlighter, Champagne Pop. I have my eye on the Make Up Forever as a new hit for 2017, maybe I’ll finally cave in and get it with some Christmas cash.
You can’t be caught kissing under the mistletoe without a bit of fool-proof lipsticks! Liquid lipsticks are totally the way to go during the holidays, and some of my favorite formulas including Kat Von D, NYX and Colourpop have some awesome sets. I’ve never personally tried Kylie’s Lip Kits, but what girl wouldn’t want one as a stocking stuffer!? (and some of her classics are in-stock now, so it’s a good time to grab some!) The Tarte and Bite sets are perfection for anyone with their comfortable and wearable formulas and color selections (both great sets for Mom!).
I also included the stunning Jouer Lip Topper in Frost Bite (Skinny Dip and Tan Lines are awesome sparkly options too) as a major want of mine this season. It’s the optime of holiday sparkle. Oh, and the holiest of them all? The Urban Decay set which includes 30 lipsticks, and I promise this formula is amazing too. What else could a girl want?
Zara Leather Effect Jacker $69.90 (I live in my Zara leather jacket, and they hold up great, look real and go with everything! Order a size up though so they fit over your wooly winter sweaters)
MVMT Hermosa or Sunset Watch $125 (you can’t go wrong with a staple watch, I like the Sunset a bit better but it’s sold out, but both styles are beautiful and classic so they’ll be in style forever)
Michael Kors Brooklyn Bag$208.95 (I know MK bags have been all the rage, but I hadn’t liked any in a bit, but this bag is stunning and timeless with it’s boho look and black and gold accents, you can’t go wrong)
Hi loves! Sorry I haven’t gotten a Best of 2015 up yet, I was away last week and had a ton to catch up on, but you will know my must-haves very soon! Today I’m reviewing some new Maybelline drugstore products I’ve been testing for about 3 weeks. January brought a slew of new products, I’m also on the hunt for the new L’Oreal Cushion foundation in my shade, but today I have Maybelline’s new Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation, the Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color, Brow Define and Fill Duo and FaceStudio Master Fix and Setting Powder. Boy, was that a mouthful. I also have a full drugstore glam makeup look below. Read on makeup mavens!
Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation: I found this foundation in the drugstore about 3 weeks ago, and as I mentioned in a post in December I’ve been on the hunt for a new drugstore foundation. I used to use Maybelline’s Dream Mousse and Fit Me Dewy and Smooth foundations, but while I loved the coverage, I always got dry patches on my nose. Anyway, I decided to give this a go. At first it was difficult for me to pick a shade: the two lightest are Warm Porcelain and Porcelain Ivory. I went with Warm Porcelain as it didn’t look as pink on the packaging. I will say putting this on my hand it looked way too warm at first, but it blends right into my skin color once it dries down. The consistency of this is thick and very much like a squeezed mousse, and unlike any foundation I’ve ever tried. It truly is what the name says though: it’s a hydrating matte foundation. I’ve had no issues with this drying my skin out and the coverage is medium to full and it last about 8 hours without a primer. I think I’ve found my new favorite drugstore foundation! 9.5/10
Color selection: 12 colors (only one truly dark shade though)
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Colors: So like many other makeup lovers who see this, you probably think these are Maybelline’s versions of liquid lipsticks, like Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks or Anastasia Liquid Lipsticks, they are not a true liquid lipstick. These lipsticks are a creamy consistency hat have a satin-matte finish. They never dry down, so they do transfer. I bought the colors 5 Nude Thrill and 50 Possessed Plum. I have to say I love love love Nude Thrill. I think the color is stunning, and I personally like the creaminess, it’s like a matte lipgloss. The coverage for Nude Thrill is medium-full and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable to build. Possessed Plum on the other hand is a different story. This colors moves on your lips as you swipe so you can never get a full coverage without seeing your lip color come through. It takes about 4-5 swipes to get a mostly opaque color but as this product transfers it’s hard to wear. It may be okay if you wear it over a lipstick. These are also extremely perfumey. I am curious to try another deeper shade, just to see if the Possessed Plum is an exception, but overall I’d give these a 6.5/10.
Size: .26 oz
Maybelline Brow and Fill Duo: This product is a hybrid of a brow pencil similar to Anastasia’s Brow Wiz and a powder. This is the only product I’ve ever found like it on the market. At first, I didn’t love the powder, as it seems like it doesn’t really come out, and I also don’t love this doesn’t have a spooley but really they have no where to put one. The pencil end runs out pretty quick and starts out longer than it should meaning it will probably break off. The thing is, I love the actually product. I think the powder gives my brows a natural finish unlike any other powder. It’s probably because of the domed end it comes out of, it’s not as harsh as using a angled brush. I also really like the pencil end, it defines nicely and creates natural strokes. So I’m torn, I really like this product but the pencil end mechanically causes a lot of problems that may make this a product that’s frustrating and you’ll have to replace often. 7/10
Pencil and domed end which distributes powder
Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder:I haven’t used this product too long, and as you have probably realized I’m pretty married to Revlon’s Aqua Ready translucent powder, but this is a close second. I think this powder is very similar to more high-end powders like the Make Up Forever Translucent powder. It’s very finely milled and doesn’t leave a white residue. I think this powder is perfect for all skin types but especially someone with oily/combo skin. If you have been on the hunt for a good drugstore translucent powder, I think this is it! 9.5/10
Shades: 1 (Translucent)
Size: .21 oz
Primer: I ran out of my usual drugstore primer, but would use Loreal Magic Lumi Primer normally
Foundation: Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in 05 Warm Porcelain
Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Fair (I also love NYX HD concealer but I ran out of that too)
Powder: Maybelline FaceStudio Powder
Brows: Maybelline Brow and Fill Duo in Deep Brown with NYX Brow Mascara in Brunette to set
Good morning all my fellow makeup mavens! Or at least it’s morning while I’m writing this; now that I’m out of my Halloween makeup looks (so sad, you can view my C3PO look on my Instagram) I’m really excited to delve into all the products I’d bought in October. The first product I needed to get my hands dirty with and my face pretty with is the BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette. Carli Bybel is probably my favorite Beauty Youtuber, she’s a fellow New Jerseyian, and absolutely stunning with a big heart. About 4 million other people must envy her beautiful makeup because this palette sold out at lightning speeds. At only $12.50, with 14 gorgeous plum, mauve, gold, and coppery eyeshadows, and 4 stunning highlighters, why wouldn’t this baby be a hit? I had never tried anything from BH before this palette, and I will say their process for getting the items to the consumer was a bit half hazard. Anyway, enough about processes! Look below for a review, swatches, and a full makeup look using this palette. Order your’s here, it’s out of stock for now, but hopefully it’ll come back soon.
So as I had mentioned above, I’ve never used BH Cosmetics products. But this palette was just too beautiful not to buy, and really inexpensive, which had me a bit skeptical because even drugstore brands like Maybelline and L’Oreal who have their own palettes can be a bit pricey. The packaging is a crisp white, which I’m sure I’ll get dirty, and it’s nothing super sturdy. The product inside is all I really care about, and I have to say these are pretty darn good. Some shades are a bit powdery, but nothing that has me freaking out over fallout, and they’re all pretty pigmented, especially the satiny/glitter shades. I really love that Carli choose shades that can be used for day or night, and have enough variety you’re not buying another knockoff Naked Palette. The shades to the left are perfect for highlighting and a softer look for school or work, the middle 6 are knockouts for everyday, and the last two will definitely vamp up your look. They lasted about 7 hours. I think the eyeshadows are a solid 9/10.
Now for the highlighters, there are 4 highlighters that range from a pale pale pink, to a fierce bronze. I will say I love that there are quality highlighters in this palette. It’s rare to ever find highlighters in a palette especially ones as good as these. The first two work best on my ghostly skin tone, but I can also get away with the third gold if I use a light hand or mix it; it’s very pigmented. The last shade doesn’t work as a highlight for me, but it’s well-suited for darker skin tones, and I can definitely use it as an eyeshadow because that shade is fierce. I don’t think I’ve ever found better drugstore priced highlighters. They get a 9.5/10.
I think this palette is an absolute steal. I really hope BH can stock this up before the holidays, because it would make a great gift for Secret Santa parties, your best friend, even yourself, if you’re so inclined. Carli did an amazing job, I may have to check out more BH after buying this palette.
Hi beauties! Graduation season is finally here, and surprisingly I haven’t seen too many blogggers or magazines offer up looks or grad makeup. But have no fear, I’m also graduating in two weeks getting my Bachelor’s in Public Relations from Rowan University, so I know the struggle of finding graduation dresses. I’m super excited to close this chapter and open another, I’ll also be able to dedicate more time to my blog, but of course I loved shopping for my graduation dress as well. A lot of friends have struggled picking the perfect dress, so I wanted to make a list of my top picks so you can look classy, feel comfortable and look timeless (lets face it that crop top combo that’s so in right now might make you cringe in 10 years). Below are my picks! P.S. The dress above is a couple of years old from Zara, I’m not wearing this exact dress, but I’ll link mine below, it’s fairly similar.
Graduation Dresses Galore
For your dress, whether it be high school, graduation or you Master’s, I like to stick with neutral/lighter colors. Most ceremonies are outside or in a humid gymnasium so the lighter the better. Also many high school ceremonies require white, and light neutrals will always look great. I also would avoid complicated necklines, such as strapless, you want to be able to wear a regular bra comfortably of an important day.
Nasty Gal Levina Lace Dress – White, $88. This is the dress I’m wearing, it’s currently sold out :(, but the length is perfect for sitting, yet still short so you won’t be hot and the lace detail is timeless. This dress is available in a blush color here, which is also a great option.
Coldie Lace Short Sleeved Mesh Insert Midi Dress Nude, $70. This dress gives the illusion of a crop top and skirt but is one piece. The lace makes it timeless and the cropped look gives it the trend factor you’re looking for. P.S. Missguided restocks a lot, so put yourself on the email list of a dress isn’t in your size.
Urban Outfitters Kimchi Blue Medallion Fit + Flare Dress, $79. This dress comes in a baby pink, sky blue and white, and they would all fit perfect for graduation. Also the unique lace adds a trendsetter vibe.
I would wear a wedge or heeled sandal, as many ceremonies are outside. I would not wear a high heel as it may get stuck in the grass, or you could trip (that’d be me, for sure). My top picks are below:
Anthropologie Jeffrey Campbell Eudora Heels, $178.oo. These are the shoes I’ll be wearing, in the color Honey. They are way over what I would normally spend, but I know Jeffrey Campbell’s are extremely comfortable while still looking great. I also love a suede insole in case your feet get clammy in the heat.
Brows: Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse in Medium Brown, NYX Brow Mascara in Brunette
Eyeshadows: NYX Eye Base in Skin Tone, LORAC 1: Lt. Bronze on Lid, Taupe in Crease, Sable on Lower Lashline, Cream on Browbone. Anastasia Beverly Hills Lavish Palette Rum Cake LE on outer lid, can use any shimmery brown. MAC Pigment in Naked on top of Lt.Bronze, used with MAC Fix +.
Eyeliner: Jordana Cateye Liner in Brown on Upper lashline. L’Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Brown on Waterline.
Mascara: L’Oreal Telescopic in Carbon Black.
Blush: Colourpop Cosmetics Holiday
Highlighter: BECCA Cosmetics Liquid Highlighter in Opal topped with BECCA Pressed Powder in Moonstone.
Lips: MAC Soar lipliner all over the lips and NYX Black Label Lipstick in Tea Rose.
Today in South Jersey it finally felt like spring, which is perfect because I recently received four of the 20 Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Blushes. All the shades I picked are more on the spring/summer spectrum, but with the winter blues and snowstorms who doesn’t long for corals, peaches and pinks? These blushes, retailing at $8, come in matte and satin formulas, and like the Colourpop eyeshadows they feel spongey (not quite like a cream, but definitely not a powder), but they dry to a powder finish. Below is pictures, swatches, a makeup look and mini review! So plan a spring adventure with perfect in peach looks.
These blushes definitely have staying power, the swatches above haven’t moved an inch in four hours, even after rubbing the back of my hand. Although three of my shades are matte, they all have a dewy-esque look which I happen to like, but don’t expect these to be a true matte formula. The finish is more sheer than opaque, but the color is buildable. I used a Real Techniques Stippling Brush (Colourpop recommends using a duo fiber brush), but I’m honestly going to try a denser/bigger brush because I think the product would apply better, mine was a bit streaky. I had to build up the color to get the shade I desired, but the color is easy to build and beautiful. My favorites are Pegacorn, which I almost didn’t get because it’s so in ya face, and Bonus which is my perfect colored blush! I’d give these an 8/10 and for $8 they’re awesome. I’m definitely picking up more!
Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Poreless in shade Porcelain
Concealer: MAC Prolong Wear in NW15 mixed with Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Pen in Radiant
Powder: Physicians Formula Nude Wear Over Glow Palette
Cheeks: Colourpop Super Shock Cheek in Holiday
Cheek highlight: Mary Louminzer by the Balm
Brows: Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown, NYX Brow Mascara in Brunette
Extras: Headpiece by Lovisa similar here and Urban Outfitter’s headwraps are too! Jacket from Zara (go to my You’ll Want Powder Blue this Fall post herefor more jacket options), Scarf: American Eagle, softest scarf ever. Sold out in this color, but three more available here.
The pale color trend has definitely continued from last years runway shows; I mean who could resist the cotton candy colored hues that for surprisingly stand out as edgy against the sea of blacks and burgundy’s fall clothes usually bring? Last year it was pale pink, courtesy of Celine’s über popular pale pink coat (view here on vogue.com look #6). This trend broke open when Kim Kardashian sported this coat, click here to see. But this year I’m predicting another pale hue is going to be taking names and stealing the money out of your wallet. But don’t worry, this trend is too beautiful to float away, so you won’t be having any puffer jacket regret next season. Below are your pale hue options!
